News article - Framed, Saving your money, temper & your art

All right, she had an article published in the philly inquirer. Nuf said.

She dose not worthed look at here book the title what the ...... is she thinking to sell too, not to me she is just one housewife that she field the life has eating her and let me do something, look how she is dressed, the frames in a back they are with a plastic wrap no glass, she did go to the trash cans and search for it, a success full writer wont do such a think.

If we make 3 time more what do you care, OH sorry by the way can you suggest me how should I mark up my printer I want to sell it so You may know better, you are the writer you should know. If I were you I will stay where you belong to your clients that they buy your books , I don;t know who you are but I did find out through those people here. and I don't think I will ever want to know about you,,THE TITLE OF THE BOOK SAYS EVERYTHING.. SH........ IS so BAD

Photo removed... very interesting.

Anyway, I think it was clear the frames belonged to a bookstore or wherever she was talking.

Guess that confirms that we have a nasty case of lurker.... get out the rat traps.

I say we all chip in and give her a few sheets of cardboard and some macaroni so she won't have to shop anymore.

:D

This "columnist" is getting way too much attention than she deserves. She and her flatulous opinions should be assigned to garbage can where they belong.

If some cheapskate is influenced by her nasty column and "didn't see the alleged sarcasm", then decide to grace their mansions with Walmart style art, so what are we losing?

When I send Marni and invitation to connect with me on Linkedin because we were both part of the 3/50 project, she refused, saying "she didn't know me". Imagine that, she didn't know me, I signed my civil comments that I left about her column with my full name and as the founder of LIFE.

Guess she isn't really interested in having a meaningful professional conversation. So we just continue to have this sarcastic exchange here on the Grumble, cause, "that's just how we are". Guess it's a good for the goose, good for the gander type of thing.

( it is curious though that you didn't want your pretty face here on the G. Who knows, one of the pastie faced ones among us, might have framed it up really nice in one of those overpriced frames. )

I move that we all let this one die. Let's keep our customers happy and make sure we don't do anything that might inadvertently increase this woman's book sales.

We will have no professional conversation according to the blog:

But Holy Almighty, I shouldn’t have to pay for a frame with my vital organs. Furthermore, my hunch was correct. While whining to a former framer about the backlash I’d gotten from the frame industry, he shared this industry secret: The mark-up on frame materials is typically 3 1/2 times the cost of materials. “It’s the biggest racket out there,” he told me. I felt vindicated.

Dear lurker: You should in no way feel vindicated. 3 times the cost of raw materials is a standard markup for manufacturing and construction businesses. If anything, it's low. Your friend outs himself as an employee and not a store owner. Every employee thinks the boss is making 3 times the cost of materials as profit. They are usually never aware of the times we delay our own bills so they can have a paycheck.

The response you have gotten from picture framers is not because you hit a sore spot, it is because you are WRONG. If you were a journalist, these articles would end your career, Stephen Glass style.

Not one of our responses has been posted on this blog. Enough said, I say. Except this: PICK A NEW HYPERBOLIC ANALOGY. If you sold your kidney on the black market, you'd have enough $ to frame for the rest of your life. Might I suggest your firstborn's college education, or perhaps fitting yourself for a dog collar and taking out our trash for the next ten years?

Okay, now enough said.

As I read her post, it seems like she is doing exactly what she accuses us of. I still say the biggest offense is on her side of the isle though. We are sounding off in here among a group of mostly framers and voicing our concerns directly to her. She is using her platform to speak to the world against us. I guess she has gotten some really nasty private responses. Maybe much of it was misread sarcasm?

I don't think that anybody is going to appeal to her with any amount of professionalism or information. She believes we are con-artist and stands by that. Ok fine. Perhaps its time to flip the coin. What skills does a "decorator" really have to have? What do they really do? They give their opinion and charge for it including travel. When they pick out something for their client they mark it up after a discount. If I didn't have such a great relationship with the designers I work with, I'd write an article clearing up exactly what a designer does vs. what they charge for that service. You want to talk about a con!

She has displayed through her attitude that NOBODY is going to change her mind, no matter what. The response I posted on her blog 3 days ago is still not on there, and I'm guessing it won't be posted.

The question is, how do you fight back? How do you retract what she has refused to retract? Go directly to the papers and ask for a rebuttal article?

It's too bad really that she has chosen a bull-headed response, because she could have learned a whole lot if she'd chosen the higher path. I thought journalists were supposed to be open minded???

I think that the best writer (s) among us, should compose a "letter to the editor" or "OpEd" piece and submit it to each newspaper where her article appears. I think the composition of the letter should not take place in the public forum though as it is obvious that people are looking in. This should be done in chat or by PM.
I'm not that articulate of a writer but I would be glad to participate.

I seriously think this is the best way. Who wants to volunteer?
Jim Miller? Paul Cascio? (maybe not Paul, he can be a little bit of a hot head :D ) John Ranes II, Vivian?

I think it would have even more weight, coming from another published writer.

:bdh:

She's gone on ...we should too.

You can't educate a closed mind.

I agree, it's time to let this matter drop. She's shown that she has no intention of apologizing, admitting her errors or issuing a retraction. To keep beating the dead horse is just going to make us look like a bunch of pissy douches.

She's shown that she has no intention of apologizing, admitting her errors or issuing a retraction.

Or most saddly no interest in learning the truth. Well except she did ask some hack that said 3x markup was a racket.

Gone on? Was she ever in here posting? If so I missed it as I really can't believe that a thread can run this long on one topic, with no frankenthreading. I'd be impressed, but really, 220+ posts about someone not here, who doesn't care what framers think? I think we're approaching a whining stage!

Nah I'd say no interest. If you look back I believe that info was offered when one of us wrote her.

Just bring your own bottle of wine with you. They charge an uncorking fee, and i think that goes for twist off to.

Heck while your at it bring your own steaks, or vegetables, I think we paid $40 a piece for a three seafood plate, on pasta. How outrageous! :)

Kirsten if you're reading this, check out Angelina's fro dinner when you come through town. It's in Ogunquit, but WOW! t was phenominal. I guess it's worth paying when the person you pay knows what they're doing! With food or frames.....

You know, one more jab at Marni:

I wonder if she's self-published. There's a way to waste money.

I'd go look up the ISBN to find out, but I frankly don't care anymore. People will learn eventually.

And I'm surprised she paid to have someone build her webpage when she could have done it in FrontPage Express herself.
