Cross Country Grumble Visits

Beck--

Salem, MA is accessible by most routes north. I can't promise you any goodies or cakes, but I can tour you through the re-build of our shop after our terrible fire ordeal. We made the shop our own, after 17 years working there for someone else!

I must say I'm impressed with the timing of your trip so far. You are doing good, girl!

Perhaps your kitteh needs to meet our shop mascot, Scooter. Scooter is a Russian Tortoise. She spends half her time in a thirty-gallon fish tank and the other half wandering around the store.

Went back to the first of the blog...loving your new doo! gig

That is alot of exclimation points but I totally enjoyed our short visit too!!!!!

The rain is going away tomorrow--Tuesday--and it's supposed to be spectacular through the weekend up here! High 50's into the the possible 70's for the weekeend! We plan to go MOTORING in our Mini Cooper Clubman on Sunday. The most picturesque routes are 127 to Rockport or 1a to Newburyport. GREAT drives either way! Neither, unfortunately, will take you anywhere else as the routes end. Route 95 and 1 will take you North. 95 is an interstate and is BORING. Route 1 is, well, Route ONE! "There can be only one." *snort*

I am trying to figure out my plan for the rest of this week... I know... *me* making a plan! Weird!

So, seeing Hugh Phibbs at the National Gallery is not gonna happen as I was SO HOPING it would, he will be away. BUMMER!!

I will remain in Virgina today and leave here on Wednesday, go to the National Museum any way, then off to New York. I would like to see BatesMotel and EllenAtHowards while on my way to NY. But it looks like I may have a job interview in NYC with a moulding company on Thursday or Friday. I may need to skip the visits. :(

PaulN, I should be able to make a stop in to see you after I leave NYC.

Also, to all my Massachusetts grumbling friends.... I will catch up with you after I get my stuff to NH. I will make a special trip *very* soon to see you. My sister is running in a half marathon this weekend, I want to be able to make it there to see her cross the finish line.

Mikki, I hope to see you in September at the Decor show, we can get the pic then! Thanks for the "Do" comment. I am still not sure I like it. It sure is easy to care for, but I miss the 16 inches!

Will wait to hear from you Becky! Don't worry; I'm not going anywhere anytime soon!!!!

What half marathon is your sister running???? Where? Have fun, the weather is supposed to be gorgeous!

Enjoy the rest of your trip and Safe travels!

Ylva, I am not sure exactly where my sister is running, somewhere in Rhode Island. But I did find out it's not a half marathon, just a warm up for one. She is running 5 miles, but it is her first race, so I am there!

The following is the latest blog entry for my visit with Mary Fender of Frame Nation, AKA MaryFramer. If you want to see the photo mentioned, you will have to go to the blog.

Wow, how can I say this? WOW! WOW! WOW! I just left Mary Fenders frame shop "Frame Nation." Not even 4 WOWS can express how much I loved her shop and her! Frame Nation is another shop, along with Rob Markoffs, that should be a destination for all framers. Mary thinks outside the box on just about everything. Creativity is so common in all she does that I imagine it comes as easy to her as breathing. Oh, and by the way, her personality is just as WOW! if not more so.

If I have not conveyed well enough that I was more than impressed, then let me say I was blown away. For all her ideas and time spent updating facebook and twitter as well as her website, newsletter and live web-cam, she should have customers lining up at the door. I will be sending business her way, too.

I would like to tell you about all the cool stuff she has in her shop, but I love her uniqueness and would hate to see it randomly copied. So if you want to know, you will have to go see for yourself. She does have a knack for frugality in her shop design, but with her charm and creativity in dressing it up, one might think differently. There is a tangible hip and fun theme throughout.

I will tell you about one of the competition pieces she did for the PPFA in 2009. It is the same necklace I framed and mentioned in a previous blog entry. Mary took this framing to new level and placed the necklace around the neck of a cut out of Marilyn Monroe. The funny thing is that upon looking at the framed piece, it was not the necklace I was noticing. As a picture framer I am always looking at the framing first. This framing was spectacular because it was done in a manner I had not seen before and probably never would have thought to do myself. Mary placed a wood frame around the base of a deep metal shadowbox frame in which Marilyn and the necklace was housed. The cool part is that the metal frame is removable to allow access to the necklace! Awesome! I apologize for the bad photo, but at least you can see the necklace.

Many of you know that Mary Fender had an article written in Decor Magazine about her talents of networking and social media. If you have not read the article, you can do so here. She has the cyber world at her fingertips. And people are watching and getting it. While Mary and I were chatting Mary decided to do an impromptu interview with me on her live shop web-cam. FUN! The idea of a shop web-cam is terrific. I had actually thought of this before and am very happy to see it working at Frame Nation. Marys web cam is also interactive. Her viewers can watch and chat along. You can watch our chat here.

If every frame shop I visited was this much fun, I would have to find a way to make a living by visiting them all. It is addictive. Thanks Mary!

Spoke to Becky this morning. She was on her way to an interview in NYC.

Timing wasn't good for us to meet and mentioned that she should get out of the NYC area before Friday rush hour. She may be back in this area shortly, so I'll get to see her then.

She's Northbound, stopping at another frame shop and then on to home. Just 4 more hours driving and she's done! She expects to be home later tonight.

Safe journey Becky...

Becky-

It has been 10 days since your last blog........

Are you OK?

Home?

Your fans want more!

Thanks Rob and Mar for asking.

I made it home safely to New Hampshire last Friday, after leaving Virginia on Wednesday. I feel terrible about not stopping at any frame shops between Virginia and New Hampshire as I had planned to. My body had taken enough and I could only focus on getting home.

I did stop in NYC, as Mark mentioned, for a job interview, which I was hired for, BTW. In fact I have been in New York for the last three days now, training. I'll mention more about that later.

I have been on the go since getting home and I still have not had a good nights sleep in over 6 weeks. I am tired and need to change my diet, get some exercise and ingest some vitamins. Hopefully this weekend.

Thank you, EVERYBODY, for all the good wishes in getting me home safely. I wish I could visit all of you and say thank you in person. You are THE BEST!!!

Becky

Glad you made it back okay, but will sure miss your entries about your journey and visiting fellow framers/Grumblers.

Congrats on the new job!!!! Hope you will tell us all about it when you have a chance.

Well, Becky, if you’re in New Hampshire, don’t bother to stop by … I won’t be here … whenever you’re coming, I’m gonna be busy.

Stay away! :icon11:

Way to Go Becky! See you just need a change! Good things all the way! Can't wait to hear what your are doing!

Yay, Becky!!!!! :D

I'm so glad to hear that you were hired in New York!
Boy, talk about someone just going for it and having things
come around in a good way. Your willingness to put the
effort forward and just see what comes of it is something
I will take to heart.

Yesterday morning, I read that Decor article about Mary
Fender and Frame Nation. What a treat to pop by here
today and happen upon your interview link. I really enjoyed
seeing the two of you. Thanks for letting us all share
in this adventure of yours. :)

What a wild ride. Congratulations on your new job and your fun along the way. Is'nt that what its all about after all, the journey...

I guess that didn't work. Becky showed up here about an hour ago. I tried to tell her she was in the wrong place, but the corner samples gave it away.

She mentioned that she stopped in to see Paul in Connecticut, but decided to continue on her trip anyway rather than turn back.

I hope I’m not giving away any secrets, but Becky is now a sales rep for Decor in Northern New England and parts of Massachusetts.

I wish her good luck.

Better get used to all that driving! Oh wait... prolly pretty warmed up by now.

So, Bill spilled the beans..... yep, I am now the sales rep for Decor Moulding with the Northern New England territory. I was going to write a separate thread for that, but I don't want to make a big deal over it. After all... I am still and always will be a FRAMER!! It's in the blood, baby!

I have many Grumblers in my territory..... Harry AKA Harry, Bill Henry, Bob Doyle, Cliff Wilson, Framah, Wendy Lang, Toxic, Ylva (although, not an account of mine :( ) just to name a few. I am looking forward to meeting all of you and hope to keep the first visit with you a social one and save the business for the next trip. Although, it didn't work out quite that way with Harry, Cliff and Wendy!

Ylva, I hope to be in the Gloucester area this Thursday, weather permitting. I heard there may be a snow storm brewing!

The new job started just a few days after I arrived home. I have been so incredibly busy, that this is the first time I have had to sit and update this thread. I have missed all of you SOOOO MUCH!!!! My life just isn't the same without Lots-O-Grumblin'

I also want to keep the Gypsy Framer blog updated and hope to write more in the next week. So, to all of you who have requested more... THANKS! There have been many framers and shop owners I have met in the last few weeks to keep that blog running.

I do however want to mention a framer I met a few days ago, Nikki Andrews of "The Casual Cat" frame shop. She has written a murder mystery novel about.... Framers!!! I will start another thread with more info....

Thanks again, Grumblers, It has been an amazing journey thanks to all of YOU!

:)

Glad to hear you are alive and kicking - how is your kitty? Going on the road with you for rep visits??? That would be so totally cool!

Congrats on your new position and have fun!

Thanks, Mar. The Bratty Cat is doing great. He lost a little weight during the trip and is now happily putting it back on....me too, BTW :)

I don't plan on bringing him with me for most of the time, but I may do so on the longer trips that include an over night stay... we'll see. It would be fun to take him..... he may not agree 'tho

Fantastic news Becky! Congrats on the new job, am really happy for you!

I'll be here Thursday 10-4 so please drop in!!! I've missed reading the gypsy journal, so hope you do have a chance to update and keep updated...

See you Thursday!

YEA/BOO! Yea! you got a job so quick....booo you don't come way down here! GOOD LUCK!

Thank you all for the congrats.

Paul, my mace can was out of order that day..... I had a nice little Bill bash all written, but I just deleted it.... he is now an account of mine.... I LOVE BILL HENRY :) wait.... wait..... is today opposite day? if so... ignore that, if not, I stand by that statement

Mikki, maybe I can get Decor to make me the official rep for all grumblers who use Decor.... Then I would get to see lots of grumblers all over the place...

Danny, you are absolutely right, and sometimes things just fall into place with such ease, you know it was meant to be.

:)

That's FAB Becky...Congrats. My favourite rep used to be a framer...Maybe the two have something to do with the amount of business I am giving his company! I like his understanding approach to my biz! And he's fun. And he may be reading this he just joined the G. (...but I like his company's stuff too!!)

Am I in your territory Becky?....I always have snacks!

All the best!! You'll be awesome!!!

Becky just left here, and it was soo nice to finally meet with her. What a great lady!!!! (and yes, Nicole, she took pictures, so with a bit of luck you all get to see what I look like....but I'm not very photogenic, much better in real life!!!!)

It was so nice talking with you Becky, can't wait to see you again soon and we'll talk business! Seems like you really enjoy your new job and still get to see so many grumblers and frame shop owners.
Keep in touch!!!!
