NY Attorney General Fines Michaels Stores!

No, they've had to modify their "offers". In the Albany, N.Y. market, they've begun having special pricing on particular "lines" of moulding - eg. "50% off the Cornici Line of Frames".
This change may seem benign at first glance, but I think as soon as the consumer senses a restriction on an offer - they begin to suspect that the item they want might not be on sale, and won't be as inclined to go to the store to find out.
Not the best solution - but it's better than nothing.

That is kind of like some framers "special" priced mouldings they buy in bulk.

unless half their line is now Cornici.

Major change in their offer here this week: They have their moulding split into collections. This week the "Classic Collection" is on sale for 55% off. It consists of 220 frames and 480 mats and UV glass. It think the Classic Collection represents about 1/3 of their frames, maybe a little more.

There is no mention of a discount on any of their other custom frames.

So is the change that their dark week is just kind of a dim week or will they stop offering all the frames on sale all the time. Have to wait until next week to find out I guess.

I bet they just say "We have coupons that allow you take 50% off any of our frames". Multiple offers would allow them to continue what they have always done.

They don't have that many frames to choose from. I couldn't even find one i really liked out of all of theirs. Guess I am just used to the ones I have or something.

im surprised they even have 480 mats, lol. seemed like they had 200 because they didn't even have all the greens i have. At least they are changing something. who knows. at least its a "change" . not the change I "hoped" for. :)

When it comes to Michaels, it's not just what their ads offer, but what their POS signage claims, and also what their employees are taught to tell the customer.

The only way to know for certain what they are doing is to pose as a customer and shop them. Then, shop them again next week and see what, if anything changes.

Ive done that, but I would have to drive by to see if their signs changed near me. last time i was in there to get some thread, which they are now out of.... ugh... they still had the same 50% off sign out front which was last week that i was there.

I haven't seen many ads lately from them, or im not looking for them.

see saw

Less just saw a framer across from Micheals with a sign in the window CHEAPER THAN MICHEALS

lol

"CHEAPER THAN MICHEALS" Common Denominator Of The Day!

hahahahahahahahahah

Instead of (only) boasting about being cheaper than, the framer should promote same staff, lower staff turnover,

Seems the NY attorneys web site took down the link to the decision. Maybe that is normal after a certain time to take those things down. Fix your web sites if you have that link somewhere. I did.

I'm sure there are other ways to win, but these two strategies seem to work well for small independent framers:

1. Go where the big-box framers have no stores. This is a run-for-your-life marketing strategy that works only until they move into the neighborhood.

2. Build a niche business. Sell the types of framing that they can't or don't want to sell.

..and locate right beside them!
