Praise 1930's 40's Photos Library of Congress

I've been browsing them and the online collection of the Library of Congress a couple years now. There's some incredible photography there.

Here's a little tip: They're all owned by the government, which is to say us, and therefor have no copyright restrictions. So, if you need some cool pictures for samples in your store, there you go. Now, the caveat is that you can use them for non-commercial purposes, so you can't just print them off and sell them.

When I was preparing for my GCF exam last year, that's exactly what I did and had them printed by Digital Custom. One of them was a picture of Neil Armstrong in the lunar lander. I received an email from DC regarding possible copyright violations, so I just copied and pasted the (lack of) copyright notice from the website and we were good to go.

Man Dave, when I first read that, I though Big Brother really is watching. Took a second to realize that the DC you were referring to was Digital Custom and not Washington. :D

I only had time to take a few quick peeks but some really great photos for sure.

Do you find these in the LOC Online Catalog? Or the Reading Room? Or somewhere else? Tx.

I've looked at a few from the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, but even for shop examples, they are not print quality. Most are 72dpi, and only about 5" x 6". How are you enlarging them without the obvious problems?

Ah, I see Dave, some of these sites offer higher resolution downloads. These could be an interesting project resource.
