Paul N

In Corner
and it was fun! and quite informative too.

Lovely Steph did a great job feeding us and keeping everybody entertained and nicely liquored up.

I got to meet lots of great people (Edie, Robframer, Mar, Ruth, Meghan McMillan, Pamela, et al).

It was definitely worth the 3 hour drive.

We should make this an annual event.

Robo and I just arrived back in Fort Erie - exhausted by excited by meeting everyone!

Tomorrow - Niagara Falls!!!

(Yes Robo here - then back to Albany, bit more to see in Saratoga then off home Thurs. Great classes by Baer - wonderfully hosted by Steph & Bob - great to meet grumblers in person 2 cool stamps on my virgin passport - soon to be probably the only UK framer doing Frank's fabulous flexible fabric fillets, once we get the shipping sorted)

Here is our official greeter for the class:

Do any of you recognize this cute little puppy who was once seen barely denting the cushion in an armchair in Steph's shop?
Yep, this is Max.

Well Rick, I do have the biggest hair in town...

I drove 3 hours from a different direction and agree wholeheartedly with Paul - well worth it. As for making it an annual event - perhaps we can rotate locations so that Steph can relax at the next one.

I have pictures (including one that looks a lot like Mar's but with Mar in it) but can't post until I get back to Baltimore.

Fun with friends - oh and I learned stuff, too (a nice bonus).

Here's the lovely setting for our class:

Please note the full sunshine, lush greenery, patio umbrella and refreshments.
Baer was barefoot, too.
I got the teensiest sunburn. (I didn't want to get any sunscreen on the linen.) But it's faded already, so no worries.

P.S.
You all should try to wangle an invitation to Steph's house sometime. She is the ultimate hostess; and she made it look effortless! AND had fun, herself.

Marty said it was very interesting for him; he found all these creative people he had never met very interesting, lively and engaging. He could have stayed and chatted with everyone even longer. Baer, he loved your stories, especially the sailing ones.

And DO take one (or more) of Baer's classes if you can. He has that rare gift of being able to explain the big picture with a few colorful sentences and then elegantly shift gears into just exactly how much adhesive to roll on what part of the mat and what noise it should be making as you do so. Plus he so obviously enjoys it, you can't help but work hard to do your best and make him proud. Even this old dog learned some new tricks.

My only complaint: It was too short!

Dear Mrs. Robo..I have been working hard on the appropriate guilt job needed to convince John to get new glasses! I don't know if it is working. I am on to plan 2.

Exausted, tired, whipped (thank you Steph for chaneling Hanna) and waiting out the plane.

Already working on next years classes. Need to perfect the Moibus Mat for the eternal shadowbox.

something maybe a little more exciting for the lecture [because nobody liked it]. Maybe the 'Inverted Carvinging of Rococo "S"s and "C"s'.

so great to meet you all and Meegan again. For some, we'll see you in Vegas; others, next year.

Reckon you all ought to come over here for the next one. Planning on winning the lottery this week - while John is away so I dont have to tell him, naturally, then we can fly you all over and have a real PARTY!!

I just got home from an exhausting and exhilarating day with Robo in Niagara Falls. He is still there (I was knackered - he wanted to see the falls at night and the fireworks and he boards a train for Albany at 4AM)) - we walked for miles, from the lip of the Horseshoe Falls in Canada all the way around to the other edge of the same falls in the US side. With the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls in between.

Both of us took loads of photos (and John was shooting video as well) - we drove around the tourist trap areas (Casino, Wax Museums, "Souvenir" shops, Hard Rock Cafe, in other words, CRAPOLA) and just stuck to the natural wonders bits - and aside from the shockingly high pricing on snacks and drinks (almost $8 for 2 ice cream bars!!!) it is a place highly recommended to anyone who has not seen it.

And as I was rummaging thru my purse for something I came across a strip of Frank's Fabulous Flexible Fabric Fillet!!! LOL!

It was a thoroughly wonderful weekend - meeting youse guys was the high point of my year and to study with THE Master - WOW!!!

Thanks Steph for arranging such a SUPER event!!! (Give Max a big kiss for me!!!)

Good Gosh Mar, we were looking all over for that strip. It's the one that goes in the demo piece of Steph's.

Now I have to go back and make it good.... maybe next year. :D

Hi everyone,

I'm in my hotel in Albany, I've checked out but am hanging on in the lobby, my flight is at 1600 to Detroit.

I remembered my Grumble password and I don't know how - how sad is that!

NOW I discover there is a computer I can use in the hotel business center - could've saved myself some expensive texts/calls home - ah well.

Steph - intended to come and say farewell this morning but with all that is going on at airports I'm staying glued to the TV and getting to the airport early. But anyway, great to meet you and everyone else and thanks again for hosting a great event.

Niagara falls was cool too - but there was a Canadian public holiday - the place was chockablock, but there was a firework display, which was nice.

Train journey back to Albany from Niagara falls was HORRIBLE. Especially leaving at 4 a.m.

Looking forward to a worse journey now though!

Still, better than the alternative, and one thing I am very good at is waiting.

Oh and PS,

From the opticians thread, everyone saying "Oh yeah" while ou wait - even for complex prescriptions. Ha!

Got my eyes tested at lenscrafters - NO WAY could they do a prescription that strong while you wait.

Special order - TEN DAYS -

My eyes are BAD man!

Still - the eye test was very thorough ($84) and I have a new prescription.

Now, where's the bleedin' door?

I've been thinking about you ever since I turned on CNN this morning! Didn't know where you were on your trip route. Hope your flight back is way boring and uneventful. Isn't the Grumble family a loving, caring bunch? I've never even met you but I think of you as a friend!

Robo,
Best of luck to you on your flight. It will feel extra good to get home I am sure.
What made the train ride HORRIBLE?
I bet you can turn it into a great story! I'm all ears!
Come back soon, we miss you already.

Hi FRaming Goddess, apparently the trip back from Niagara took over 6 and half hours, train went very very slow and kept stopping and he couldnt sleep, because his snoring kept waking him up!
Hope he does have a pretty boring ride home, because when he gets here, he is in trouble!!!!!
I have been busting a gut trying to sort his flight out, ringing Holland (its a NW airlines through KLM) etc etc, and he finds a computer and puts 2 postings through to you guys, do I get even a tiny email??????? You know the sort that says those little words 'looking forward to seeing you.....etc" , did I eckaslike! Knowing him,as he remembered his password for the grumble he had probably forgotten my email address! (too much in one day!)

QE2 is a good option, but no, Framing is Johns pidgeon. In the old days I may have showed him how to use the mountcutter, and then bought him a morso for his birthday (something all good wives do apparently), but he's way too fast for me these days, Ive spent the week putting frames together so that we could catch up on the backlog of work and I have been a nightmare! I completely managed to ruin a huge piece of UV glass (dont ask).. picked up another piece of glass that well, shattered, like it does, and the big pieces fell down and landed on another frame I had just finished and actually gouged the glass in that so we had to do that one again (that was already the second time I had done that frame as well cos I managed to kill the mount getting rid of a flumb)....John would have killed me. Apart from the plasters, Im fine and I am now back in stride. I even managed to cut myself on the paper tape dispenser.... but i didn't drop any blood on any artwork!
I'll be right glad to get back to my boring ol paper work.

Mrs Robo... do tell, it was full moon here...there to!!?! Ouch. He'll be home soon and you can give him what-for!!

Not'a'worry - it'll all be okay!
