Conservation Glass ?????

Hi Jeanette

We really don't mean you any disrespect. We're just not quite sure where to start.

It's difficult for us to assess where we need to begin and I'm not sure we can be as inclusive as we need to be. While we can give you tidbits, it will not be encompassing enough.

Regardless, don't get discouraged. We do want to help.

Have you considered taking any formal framing education classes or perhaps studying for the PPFA (Do they have this in Canada?)

It could give you a great boost, getting started.

No apology, but an acknowledgment that one should be very careful about repeating anything heard here on the Grumble. :p

I knew you wouldn't be able to admit you were in the wrong..\

OK, I was and am just yanking your chain.

Point of clarification, I was trying to address what I thought was an error by another grumbler. My response was also in error because the glass has been reformulated, but it is not low iron.

Do you know, is it "low-er" iron? It doesn't seem to change the color of prints like older glass does.

I remember when the color of the edges changed and the "low iron" assertion started flying around. I don't know who first said it or whether there was any printed literature. One of my more color sensitive customers claimed that he could see the difference - power of suggestion?

Oh, so you were just repeating something you had heard from someone who thought they knew..... nothing verified huh? ;)

I know that I used to use Bainbridge's Khaki colored alpha mat, but now it is a little too pink under the "new" glass. used to use it relatively frequently for one customer, now the color just doesn't work. but then I was using regular, generic clear glass not TV's Premium Clear. The glass seems to me to be a little clearer, but maybe you're right, maybe it is the power of suggestion. I think the shift seemed to be around the time that CC glass with the blue plastic on it disappeared. Guardian Glass was it?

OK, here's some more hope-it-isn't-misinformation:

Conservation glass coating technology has improved in recent years, such that the green tint of the glass is neutralized by the coating chemistry. The resulting color rendition is closer to water-white than it used to be. Note that this is not a new change; it's been like this for some years.

So.....that means... the REGULAR TV glass NOT have the green tint anymore?
We're talking about only conservation glass. Premium Clear (regular) glass is uncoated and unchanged. I think you'll still see the green tint.

One of my more color sensitive customers claimed that he could see the difference - power of suggestion?
If you mean the difference between the color rendition of his art under Conservation Clear vs Premium Clear, then his observation is probably real. The coating on Conservation Clear glass is color-corrected to neutralize the tint and provide better color rendition.

Thinking about this new-to-me (us) information, it seems that improved color rendering may be a previously-unrecognized advantage of Conservation products over uncoated glass. Hmmm. I have more questions for TruVue.

I don't sell premium clear glass, except for one corporate customer where price is main concern.

The glass still has a slight green edge, but not as green as some of the older glass that I see coming back to be replaced.

Hi Jeanette

You sure took the ribbing like a trooper!! Congrats - there are a few of us that bite back and would have. Some Grumblers can be a little brutal at times, I guess they just have to try to prove how smart they are by beating someone up verbally, hopefully it was all in fun and jokingly.

Anyway, most the Grumblers would be more than willing to help with your questions. You can get a ton of good information here so don't give up on the Grumble.
