We had our visit today. The girl who visited had been schooled on Crescent products and she took notes about what we needed. She showed us the Customer Care team information and said they would handle all our questions. She said she had to give a detail list of questions the framers had to her boss every night and had found most framers had moved their purchases from Larson-Juhl to another company. This should be good news to Crescent--that framers are finding the move very easy to other suppliers.

now here is a good question
Why don't more Grumblers attend framing classes?

In Vegas, Grumblers are spread out over many classes. Once you've taken a class you usually take a different class the following year due to cost and time constraints. Classes are only offered once.

Grumblers are shy folks and tend not to raise their hand when asked.

.....and others have been sucked in to donating so much time, money and stuff that they learned to never raise their hand.

Oh for pete's sake!
So THAT's what that was about?!
I thought it was Very Odd when the "visitor" told me she was not a rep.
I confused her when I held up my two hands to show her my "CMC"

Aaahhh wellll

Been gearing up here for the Hollywood invaders
Thank goodness we got the hurricane damage repairs done

cheers all

This is a rather odd thread. I think that what Crescent is doing, while not perfect,
is a pretty smart move. Hopefully, it will work out well for them and for their
current and future customers. Sometimes, it seems like if there was a national
quibbling tournament, Grumblers would win first prize. lol....

P.S. Jo-Anne, this comment isn't a response to your post. That's just
where it happened to land. Cheers to you, too.

.... Then 2 who were homebased framers, who she didn't visit (apparently those were the rules)
I can see why they might not visit home based because of potential liability concerns / issues, but they should also try to get information on them too. Maybe they can call them by phone.

The reason I believe they may want the info on them is that they can be large purchasers of mat boards.

For example, I bet that I stock more and spend more on Crescent mats than most small framers. My cheapest mats are Crescent Rag Mats. And then the specialty mats / Moorman mats that are more expensive. Of course I also do a lot of commercial.

A 3rd party group is going into every single frame shop in the country. It's something that is happening to all of us and we are being asked about products we use in our shops.
Some people are having great experiences and some aren't.
We're all sharing our STORIES about it here.

We are entitiled to our opinions no matter if anyone else thinks we are being babies or quibbling about it. I suggest people stop being so judgmental and get a freakin' life.

I LOVE it when anyone wanders into my shop.

I even figured out how not to be grumpy
when the visitor is in to ask for a donation--
which is much easier now that i have merchandise
that they are ReQuireD to browse
while I talk about me,
my fabulous framing,
and everything else I do/sell--
as I assemble the gift certificate!

Crescent's foot soldier seemed to be in a hurry, though
and she couldn't favor me with anything but the package of literature she needed to leave behind.

(indeed no offence taken Shayla. It's just a rare moment I have here to grumble-engage in something that struck me as odd. I see so few reps these days out here in the nether-reaches--At least Darren drops in and keeps me apprised)

I know I said earlier that the results from using a “below line marketing” company could be very questionable… and that after my experience of over seven years in that industry I had few good stories to relate…

However as this thread has developed and the questions been asked are now out there, I think Crescent could be on to a winner, they have taken the “Kiss” “Keep It Super Simple” approach…….. good on you Crescent….. give yourself a BIG pat on the back….

Simple questions that even the most uneducated framer would have a reasonable chance of answering without getting into much of a debate with the person sent to ask them……

However from reading this thread I’m wondering if there are not more than a few people out there in the framing industry who have no real idea of what business is about, if you have to ask who I’m referring to it is most likely “you”

Just in case anyone thinks I have any connection to Crescent, let me assure I do not sell their products, it is very unlikely I will ever sell their products, when I tried to make contact with then in the USA and Europe a few years ago about selling some of their products in Ireland, it was one of the most frustrating and time consuming exercises I ever went through in business, which resulted in me making zero progress with the various people in that organisation that I made contact with…… That said they were not much worse than some of the other board suppliers / manufacturers…. In the long run I opted for conservation / museum 100% cotton board from one of LJ operations in Europe, I only stock cotton board as my business is now focused on the conservation market.

Good luck with the “feet on the street” program Crescent ….. I think you will end up with some very useful information…

One thing about writing online is, it can be a challenge to know one's tone
of voice and intent in posting. I can assure everyone that I was just writing
in a friendly, relaxed way. There's enough real trouble going on in my world
(and I'm sure in most of yours), what with people getting cancer, dying,
what have you, that I'm saving my ferocious zest for that stuff.

Thanks for the kind words, Pat. Wishing you all a good afternoon. Over and out.....

On these shores the KISS method is an abbreviation of "Keep It Simple, Stupid". ;)

I am still waiting to see the fleeting Crescent lackey.

:popc:
Yep we would have people in my part of the world who thrive on being negative and would spout the negative version of the kiss principle when ever they get the chance....

I have rarely meet stupid people however I
have meet many who don't know much
about the topic they debate who tend to be very negative in their comments on a given subject.

It's a bit unfortunate the use of the word lackeys about people who are just doing a job they are contracted to do.

I am not saying that there would not be useful information to be gathered, I am questioning the questions. What do they care what CMC I am using and if I have a POS?

I would expect questions about mat suppliers (which ones do you use, where do you get it) and what sells at my location. Not sure if Crescent is getting that information through distributors.

Do they sell CMC's or POS????

Sorry, I might just have my blond moments here, I still don't see the relevance.
I see in the info they left me (which is now all in the waste stream) that Crescent is now promoting Valiani.

K I S S originally stood for Keep It Simple Salesman. Meaning not to over complicate your sales presentation and overwhelm your customer. This is something we have to guard against doing in an effort to "educate" them.

Received my visit yesterday. She was an old friend who has been doing this kind of work for years. Next week she's a pet food 'expert'. She left a nice packet of info and asked all the right questions. I think this is a good thing that Crescent is doing.

I don't understand why some framers are so rude to these people.

No Crescent visitors yet in Berthoud, Colorado, just sayin'...

And for me, it is a positive thing when any company with which I do business makes an effort - even a flawed one - to actually walk through my front door...

I just got visited today & it was anticlimactic to say the least.

Lady came in from some other company (Cross-something) who had been hired to give us a copy of Crescent's product info and to ask some canned questions. She had no knowledge of Crescent's products, the questions or the answers.

One of the questions asked who our "primary" and "secondary" suppliers are. Reality is that we use Don Mar and Larson Juhl equally, so there is no hierarchy. She ended up calling LJ primary. Odd since we don't get Crescent products from them anymore.

All in all a waste of my time.

Every morning, I wrap them up and take them to the store in anticipation of their arrival.
Every afternoon, i get hungry and eat all of the cookies while waiting for their arrival.
Every night I go home and bake more cookies...

I hope they get here soon!!!:faintthud:

I just had the most wonderful visit from my Crescent rep!
She's great. Fun to talk to.

I did ask her how they go about having the 3rd party visit shops.

BECAUSE I was wondering how they found me so easily since I moved my shop a few years ago....
Well DOH', they took all my updated info in Vegas.

So... my suggestion to anyone wondering why they haven't been visited yet...
Maybe you should call up Crescent and give them your info? :popc:

Here's their # (847) 537-3400

SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer
Just got my visit from some "feet" that Crescent hired. She was wearing a company tag that said Callway? No appointment. She asked who my supplier was. Less said Larson and sometimes Omega. She did not know who Larson was, because Larson was not on her list. She said Don Mar was my local supplier. Less did not bother to tell her Less does very little business with Don Mar. (Don Mar could use a rep) She ask if I had a POS and CMC, and off she went.

Not much of a visit - LOL :)

Hope they kiss and make up.

So this is eating at me. If crescent is now selling Valiani how does DonMar feel about that? DonMar sold Valiani. Will DonMar drop Crescent?? Will Crescent use DonMar for setup and support? ((Hint hint Crescent DonMar provided good support ))

Maybe if Less didn't talk about himself in the third person.... the Don Mar rep would WANT to talk to him.

Valiani has always been sold and serviced in the USA through a representative. Now it is Crescent instead of Fletcher-Terry/ITW/AMP, but that doesn't necessarily mean DonMar's business relationship would change much. If DonMar has enjoyed a good relationship with Crescent and Valiani, the new arrangement just might make it stronger.

Perhaps the best way to get more information about that would be to ask DonMar.

"Feet on the Street" found me on my street yesterday. Slow day yesterday, a few customers, but mostly me stretching A LOT of needlework.

Frantic call: "What time do you close today?"
Chickie: "Cutting out at 4 for the holiday weekend."
FC: "OKAY, thanks"

Chickie goes back to stretching needlework. (Look what you did Less, 3rd person Chickie just crept in).
Little while later FOTS rep comes in. Introduces herself, 3rd party name on her shirt. Asks my name, what POS I use, who my vendors are, do I have CMC. THAT was it. Said she had literature for me...but DID NOT have it with her. WOW. Leaves.

Frantic call: This is 'vkerl;wsajtgoigsd; and I forgot hr;jgo;iesj"
Chickie: I am sorry, WHAT ?
Frantic call: This so and so with (3rd party company) I forgot to ask your last name.
Chickie: it's Coggins
FC: Okay thanks, I will drop off that literature I forgot sometime next week.
Chickie: O-K.

I really hope Crescent is getting what they need from this, and is not paying too much.
I think a nice pen, and a phone call from Crescent would have been a nicer "please think of us better as we are getting bad press" campaign. Just sayin'. Or a mechanical pencil. Gosh I do like a nice mechanical pencil.

Our lady came in on Friday. She was just fine. Didn't know Crescent mats from
Crescent rolls, but I hadn't expected her to. I told her a bit about the company
and the mats, then answered her questions. She gave me the information she
had been sent with, and all was well. From her name tag, we determined that
I had gone to school with her niece, & also had her great-nephew for a neighbor.
She's lived in the same house for the past 40 years, just a few blocks from ours.
When she left, she said, 'Thank you for being so helpful and kind. I was afraid
I'd come in here and look like a dummy.'

Oh, and when she first came in, I said, "I've been expecting you!" She asked,
"How did you know I was coming?" "Well, there's an internet forum for framers...." :icon21:
