Well, it's been 3 weeks since I started this thread, and still no visit. I can happily say, however, that I received a phone call toward the end of last week-- my corner samples finally shipped! NOW I can start offering their mats more regularly, which I am excited about!

Sorry for those who haven't had a visit. I however have had two visits from two different people. The second lady was very annoyed that I had already been visited as she drove a long way to get to me she said. Oh well. Maybe she can put that in her report.

I had my visit and the survey rep was really nice and professional. She didn't know anything about framing but she does now. She had quite a few questions to ask and wrote down questions I had for Crescent. I think she was there for about 10 minutes asking survey questions. All very good questions about what distributors I use and what I like best about them, what CMC I use and why I choose that brand, she had me rank the mat board companies that I use and my reasons for why Crescent wasn't my number one anymore, etc..

In my opinion I think they are trying to see what distributors we use the most and if any of their preferred distributors are among our number one choice and if we have access to their products.

I have two distributors who truck deliver to me each week even if its only a few items. I now only have one who carries Crescent. What Crescent doesn't realize and it was one of the questions I sent back to Crescent is that why in the world would I continue to carry Crescent mats and get them from this one distributor when the price is now higher since they are the only one I can get it from?

I love their product and it has been my number one choice for the 18 years that I have been framing but cost is a issue for me so we are slowly switching to other brands. I know the price from my distributor is not Crescents fault but its the reason why we are slowly discontinuing their product and yes I have talked to my distributor (one of their preferred ones) about price.....it's why I don't use them very much.

I am still waiting on my visit. We have been in this same loction for the last 48 years so they should have my address. I am here 6 days a week from 9AM until 6PM so ishould have been here when they came. SO WHATS UP CRESCENT, I thought you were calling on all frame shops, HOW ABOUT ME!!!!!!

Have you emailed or contacted Crescent at all? in the last year or 3 years or 20?
Do they even have your info?

Stop crabbing about it and pick up the phone for crying out loud.

Well, they must know about me because the sent me the danged email about their Feet on the Street. I never saw anyone.

Plus I spoke with a fellow framer from my street and he had not seen them either (did not know anything about this program or their recent fall out with LJ).

Nocole, this survey has little to do with a shop's business relationship with Crescent. They missed me (and some other shops), so this data accumulation is incomplete. I have never had trouble doing business with Crescent through distributors. I also received my latest samples as a result of a rep's visit a year or so ago.

While the goal was to enter every store in the country the time frame was short. Many stores may have been visited on a day or time they were closed and I'm sure there were specific instructions on how to deal with that situation. The project was a huge undertaking and I am awaiting some info to be shared by Crescent to the industry so we have some clue as to it's current state.

I went to their booth in Vegas. I talked to them. They took/scanned my information.
When was the last time you guys actually talked to Crescent? DIRECTLY?

They sent me samples a couple of years ago and I have e-mailed them in the past so they know who I am. The guestion is not if I want to talk to them but how complete is this survey going to be if they have missed a good many of us grumblers not to mention others who are not grumblers. They were, I thought more or less doing a census of all frame shops. If they missed one of the oldest shops in the capitol of Fla. how many more did they miss?????

replacement rag samples, and again last week, when they called
about Select samples. In between, our survey lady came.

Based on early results we'll need to double the number responding "YES" to get an accurate number of framers in the US.

Error factor of + or - 50% based on early results.

As a homed based shop, I was called rather then visited.
I think Crescent thinks I'm home based since I use my home address rather than my shop's address for my mailing address. It's more convenient. Either that or they aren't sure about an online framer.

They know who I am since I get their emails and they recently called to let me know that Select corner samples were available but no call for this.

We were visited up here at Frames & Things, surprisingly enough...we do next to absolutely no business with Crescent. Lady dropped off the packet and skedaddled. Pretty pointless. I see the validity of trying a personal approach to increase business or make sure existing customers remain happy, but a more effective approach was undoubtedly in order. I'm curious to see what actions, if any, Crescent will take with their new information on...those of us special enough to receive house calls :)

Peterboro does it differently

The owner and the sales manager of Peterboro happened to be in the area, and dropped in for what was the most interesting hour I've spent in a long time. That's really getting in touch with your clients.

On the other hand, our local distributor, who I've compensated to the tune of $300,000 over the past 19 years, has never set foot in the store.

Why on earth would somebody lie about whether they have been contacted for a Crescent survey?
It just doesn't seem like that big a deal to me. We have two good suppliers aside from LJ, so their
dropping of Crescent doesn't make a difference for us. If someone doesn't have a relationship
with Crescent, as Nicole & I have both suggested, why not just call Crescent?

One of the benefits I do see from an uncontacted person calling Crescent would be to find out of
they had been listed for contact. This is a 'weakest link in the chain' kind of outreach, and it might
help Crescent to know if any of their hired survey people didn't bother to do the work.

This seems a bit like a tempest in a teapot, but is an interesting read, nonetheless.
