Facebook Question

Here is a link to a Grumble thread a few months back which contains some very helpful likes about social networking. I remember printing out the Facebook for Business one but I can't find it so I'll have to print out another one.

http://www.thegrumble.com/showthread.php?t=40934&highlight=Facebook

It is amazing how this stuff which seemed so dang confusing and convoluted at first is becoming clearer day by day. Thank God for new neural pathways!

Seems to me, Rebecca, if you hide something on your page, only you would be able to unhide it - so it is safe from prying eyes and after the privacy controls are tightened up (thanks to the Canadian Privacy Commissioner) you ought to be able to delete things.
Possibly; it is all beyond me. I don't care about the privacy aspect as I'm not the one that was cluttering up my wall, it was the random thoughts of friends. If I have something to say to someone I tend to e-mail them LOL.

You can also split your friends up into different "lists". That way you set which friends you listen to and what friends you check on from time to time.

I have my personal FB friends listed in two groups (Grumblers and locals) - I wonder can I split up my business page fans into lists as well?

I am not really interested in sending (or receiving) invitations and such to (or from)other framers - hmmmmm....

As far as I know and my knowledge is limited, you have to send to everybody. Grumblers are not likely to buy framing, but they will get ideas from promotions that you are running, so will not be sad to get your missives.

I just sent out a mass invitation for my Grumbler friends to become fans of my shop page - State of the Art. Kirstie, bless her heart, was my very first fan and she signed on from Paris!!!!

How cool is that!

(If all Grumblers respond I'll have my hundred plus a few extras!!!)

Hello Facebook Grumblers,

Tonight was my Facebook lesson courtesy of my son. My page is set up but lacking in content while I continue to figure this out.

I'm now a fan and have sent a friend request to many who posted on this thread.

As I browsed around your pages I also saw many familiar names.

You can see my page at: http://tinyurl.com/mxeroo

I would like to get to the 100 fan mark so I can secure my username.

I only started my page on Monday - so you are not that far behind me - this thread has proved to be invaluable - but having a hands-on guide in the form of a young person - that is pure gold!

Mazel tov!

I was so long ago now - ( last Monday!) - but it seems to me that was the link I clicked to start my page and my page URL is still three lines in length!

Understatement of the week: Sometimes Facebook is very confusing!

Correct...

To start a business page, try here http://www.facebook.com/help/search.php?hq=business+page&ref=hq#/pages/create.php . They do hide the help link, it is at the bottom right corner of your page in little type, but seek and you shall find. Barring that you always have the grumble, top help pages around!!!
Tom is right that at first it is a little daunting...and some things are not readily found. I notice that a few businesses are setup as individual accounts.

Individuals / People have Friends

Businesses / Shops have Fans

Both appear to be accessed by the same Individual account which needs to be established first.

Here's more semantic confusion to threw into the mix:

Individual pages are called Profiles,

and

Business profiles are called Pages.

So, your Business has a Page with Fans and you have a Profile with Friends.

Carry on!

I just went through this problem last night.

This solution come from my son Andy. ( He's smarter than I )

If you copy and paste your link while logged into facebook you get a url with all kinds of useless session script, it works but is very long.

If you log-out and re-open your browser and go directly to your page you will get a url that is "not so long". Copy and paste that url.

If you want a url that is even shorter go to" www.tinyurl.com

If I could do it over, I would start my business name first on facebook as ocean art.
When you start as an individual, your business can only be a page of your individual account, or so I've been told.
I'm william harris on my individual account, and ocean art as a business page.

PS: One local restaurant I'm a fan of has 1,600 fans. Free advertising to 1,600 people each week would be a powerful way to keep your name out there.

Doug - for the last two days I have had a friend suggestion which I was unable to see and just now I was able to click on it and it was to be friends with you - FB has been all over the map in the last 2 weeks - they should change their name to GPS!

Mar that has been my experience since I started earlier this year, with the number of users and it's regularly attacked by hackers. There are relatively calm periods, once in a while.

We just added a Facebook feed to our home page and today I added photos from our trip to the shop FB page. I tired to tie all the photos in to an art focus, a stretch, I admit.

Wow - your website is really superior!!! Better every time I go there!

Gonna go burn mine now......

How did you add that FB feed thing? I can't even make the "badge" show up on mine!
There is a place on your facebook page under your image on the left side of the page that says Add a Fan Box to your site. It gives you the html code and you choose your options--fan box, with feed, with fan thumbnails, etc. I had to give the html code to my web designer to insert onto he page.

Pilm Joint MEC 1 Framing Equipment

Hi guys,

Just in case anybody wants a Pilm Joint Mec. I have one. Mine says in the Manual JOINT MEC 3 x 3, but I see it is exactly the same they sold as JOINT MEC 1.

I had in the past for a short period an art gallery and I paid for it over 500 with S & H and without the base. I think now, if you find it, will probable be around that price, maybe including the fragile base they did for it.

I added a more sturdy metal base which will last forever, and I practically used the equipment for only 3-4 months.

I'm selling it for $380 with manual, accessories that came with it, base and adding for free with the purchase 3 boxes of staples.

It is only available for pick up, in Clewiston, Florida. No tricks, it is in perfect condition.

Pls, if anybody wants to buy it just send an email to esvipron@yahoo.com for that purpose.
Thanks
Al.

You don't need 100 for a URL anymore. Follow back on the thread and it will explain all.

FB has been acting so dang screwy lately, Randy - i began my business page with your original link and still have the realllyyyy lllloooonnnngggg address.

So i wonder what happens when I reach the magic number? Bells and whistles? Or just the short URL? Or is it something one has to apply for?

Or does FB just have another aneurysm and shut down?

I think there is a limit to the number of fans you can have, I am not sure but I think it's 5000.
