Does anyone know of DIY plans for both vertical and flat file storage. Crazy how expensive flat file cabinets are. I’d love to build a work table with flat file storage underneath. Anybody have ideas, plans or pictures they could share?
Thanks.

You should be able to find a 5-drawer for around $250. Sure saves time and effort.

And the steel ones are extremely durable. Why build?

And in what alternative universe are you buying these in? :faintthud::beer:

New ones start at $600 and up. I have been looking for inexpensive used ones for years. Even checking local auctions without luck.

Here is a sampling of new 5 drawer flat files. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=5+drawer...725213&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_1fhgyhltc1_e

Don't be fooled by the ones that are $170-$200. Those are for the base only.

I got mine off of Craigslist - 5 drawer 50" X 37" X 3. I paid less that $200.00 for each. They operate perfectly but have minor scratches and dents. I just looked at the Craigslist in Minneapolis and there are at least 10 for sale from $150.00 to $1200.00 with the majority at about $200.00. They are expensive to ship but maybe your area would be good to look into.

I have four steel ones, and they were $250 each. Used. Two in 1999 from an artist, two from a train store in 2006 for the same price. Quite common up here. Probably government surplus.

When I was setting up my shop I purchased this book:
It is all pretty basic carpentry.

Best of luck
