Sad isn't it - all those fine film cameras gathering dust in drawers and cupboards:(

Too bad they can't be converted to digital. What a waste.

    They tried.

There was some success at the very high end , namely Hasselblad and Betterlight 4x5 systems.

The ideas for 35mm cameras never went anywhere.

Scanning 35mm film with high end printing equipment was a good business for the lab that lasted about 5 years.

Now you got an old film guy worked up. I really, really loved my film cameras. I has so many cool cameras and accessories.

Hasselblad system, three lenses, three backs, grips and filters all neatly packaged in a Halliburton case.
I was a Minolta guy. SRT101, 100, 5000, 7000, 9000, XE7 x3, lenses galore. I used them at the lab for copy work and inter negs.

If I remember the engineering issues correctly converting 35mm cameras to digital had obstacles.

The exposure system systems often worked by reading the light that bounced off film. When film was replaced by a sensor the light programing didn't work.

The other issue was getting the film plane just right. The sensor had to sit in the exact same place that the film chip lay or auto focus didn't work.

Solving the problems resulted in a cost that wasn't practical so they started over.

Srt-101 and AE -1. Had them both, and turned out some good results. I'm blown away by what can be achieved now, even just on a smart phone.
