i would like your opinion on how to frame this - the customer wants a shadow box 1-2 inch - contemporary gold - the art is 86 inch by 29.5 inch, uv plexi - no mat.
The frame i showed customer's friend was a Roma portfolio 1 inch gold leaf, but i think that is too skinny a frame.
Thank you in advance. ;)

It all depends on the depth ... if there's enough depth in a narrow frame you can add a substantial strainer ... join strainer to frame with pocket hole screws for a rock solid assembly.

A strainer is the only way I would do that with almost any moulding.

But my question is what is the art? medium? on paper? I would hesitate about putting a frame directly on or around the paper, floating on a mat would look good.

Man, does that line down the middle of the artwork bother anyone else? It would drive me absolutely crazy - looks like a bad Xerox from a (really big) book!

No line in the middle

I could not take a photo with IF of the entire art, so i photostitched it and the dark line appeared. The artwork is painted on watercolor paper - i assume it is acrylic. The art being so big would be a problem to mat and float it, i think.

Uta there would be no problem at all floating w/ spacers, this on a mat board that is at least 1" larger all around than the artwork. And it would allow the artwork to expand and contract normally, as opposed to being cramped in my the frame. Cutting a mat would be a PITA and cumbersome but it can be done.

If it where mine, floating on matboard, frame w/strainer (w/ corner and cross braces) plexi and spacer is the way to go..

Thank you all for your suggestions

Thank you, Randy. I found a frame that will be deep enough. LJ #393401, which is 1/2 inch on top, 1 inch on bottom and has 2 inch rabbet. Black mat is one inch and the art will be floated. Now i just need the approval from the customer .....
