Which trade fair would you attend if there were three - Atlanta, Vegas or New York. Vegas in Januasy, Atlanta in September and NY in March?

Vegas Baby!!!

Atlanta has dropped of lately, and so has NYC. Vegas is still seeming strong. Another point is if you are coming from Figi, Vegas is about 4 hours closer.

Vegas. For me it is about the weather. The weather is cold in Minnesota and Vegas would be a nice break from the cold. Also, everyone I have spoke to about the shows says the Vegas is the larger and better of the shows. If I am going to spend the funds to go it would definitely be where I can get the most out of it, in fact I have this years show marked down on the calendar already.

I just wish they would move the Vegas show out of the Hilton. That place is a dump. This year everyone remember to take their "airborne".

NY

New York (its closer) and I agree that moving it from the Hilton in Las Vegas to a nicer place would be good.
By the way, Airborne was sued by the Govenment, and you can get your money back. It doesnt do anything except take your money away.

whats with this???? pls explain to us who dont 'know'

A lot of folks ended up sick Bill. A risk when you travel anywhere. Close contact in airplanes, stale air in hotels, the second hand cigarette smoke is horrible.

I've found Emergen-C to be much more effective than airborne. When I travel I make sure I start taking it before my trip and throughout 3-4 times a day. It's good just to take everyday anyway, lots of extra C!

I often wonder if being that so many of us live in smoke free states, that once we start breathing in that second hand smoke, if we aren't at that much more risk.

As far as the question at hand, I would do either Atlanta or Vegas. As far as NY...I would have to see exactly what they have planned. It's only a train ride for me, but any trip away from the shop has to be a productive one.

WCAF if I had to choose one.

I honestly don't think that the location is all that important... the time of year is more important. September if a time of year when most smart businesses are gearing up for their holiday season, and don't want to take time off. Spring and early summer are better times for trade shows.

Then you can take in the cost of going to a trade show. New York is VERY expensive if you need to park a car for any amount of time. I won't even go in to the Hotel costs.
Las Vegas is actually cheaper if you stay in one of the other hotels. (Probably healthier staying in a different hotel.) Most airflgiht to Vegas is pretty affordable, because of the volume of flights heading there.

I would say that Vegas is probably the best time of year, and the least expensive place to attend. That being said, no convention is worth going to, if the distributors don't attend, or if the classes are not available.

Scheduling of classes must be done correctly, so that people are signed up for the right classes at the right times. Definitions of classes must be clear so that people sign up for classes they actually have an interest in.

I think the WCAF is the premier show in the states. You can always find a flight to Vegas, rooms are cheap, and it's a fun place to visit. Atlanta gets expensive and forget about new york. I have been to Saca in Bologna a few times and thats a pretty good show. fun place to visit.

why don't they have trade shows every other year. at least give the exhibitors a chance to come up with something new and exciting. I would rather go to a great show every other year than an ok show every year.

Jill,

In the declining trade show environment, this is exactly what they did in Spain with an every two year format. When the venue folks increased expenses even higher, the key 7-8 exhibitors stayed away and the show died in 2006.

The Australian framing show went to an every other year format and is on for 2009. It is also merging with the PMA convention in that country so it should be a win-win arrangement.

The U.S. market size probably warrants an annual show and although not as important as it was to attend perhaps 10 years ago, I think that the WCAF show is here for awhile due to it's Education and Social strengths.

Last year, Las Vegas, was my first year to a trade show. I went to the last part of the West Coast Art and Frame show and part of the PPFA, as they overlapped.

I thought the WCAF show was excellent, and I will allow more time for it this year. However I thought the PPFA classes were just a little bit better, but the show was not as good for a framer, unless you were heavily in photography too.
