Rick, you've been friended.(Randy sent out a call to arms on your behalf)

Randy covered the rest.

Bob
Thanks! Once I get that specialized URL without all the extra characters, I'll start spreading the word locally too.
 Rick

I'm sure I'll get more familiar with the workings of FB eventually. Right now I feel like I'm visiting a country where I don't speak the language.

Rick if you go to your new FAN box you can click on "see all" or and individual, from there you can send a "Friend Request"

I would be the Randy Parrish in Ann Arbor, I think I have personal url too, www.facebook.com/randy.parrish

Ok, I did the "see all" and it brings up a list of all you fine colks who have become fans. Next to each one there is a button called "Make Admin". Is that what I'm looking for? I thought I was the "Admin.".
:icon11: Rick

P.S. Clicking your link just takes me to the FB homepage.

NOOOOO don't hit that, if you do we can all do bad things to your page.

If you want to friend someone, pull them up on your screen and look for the "friend" button towards the top.

I'll send yoou a friend request and try to make friend suggestions for you.

no you don't want to make any one of us your administrator. Are you logged in when it takes you there?

I tried serching for you Rick but there are two of you and both you have no picture or place to id you.

Rick, do you have a personal page? I don't see you listed as a fan of your own page.

I don't think you can befriend someone from a fan page only personal.

Bob

OK, I was able to "friend" Randy through my personal page.
Here it is:
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=name&id=100000107237629

I just did personally become a fan of Frameworks too.
 Rick

P.S. Now that people are becoming fans, etc. the search function now shows Frameworks Cincinnati as it should, and is no longer bringing up the two preliminary sites that I had deleted. I'm beginning to think that various kinds of changes either take quite a while to "kick in" or don't take place until someone else interacts with your page. It's still a mystery.

Yeah, why would they even HAVE that available? You don't want to accidentally click that and make someone else the boss of your page. Yeah, It seems I have to be logged in to do anything at all on FB.

I guess I should try to delete the non-functioning one. I have not posted a picture yet. Will try to find a good one and do so. You should be able to see info though. Or do you have to be an official "friend" to do that? How do most of you have your settings for this stuff adjusted on your personal pages?

Bob
True. Also, you can't send a bmail message from the fan page, only the personal page.

The great thing about the fan page is you can click on "suggest to friends" and send out invitations to your friends, and then you can ask those friends that become fans to send out invitations to their friends.

Rick once your get 25 fans you can get your own URL for www.facebook.com/frameworks-Cincinnati just go to www.facebook.com/username. IF you friend me I can send Grumblers your way!
OK, I've got enough Fans now. (Thanks, everyone.) When I click on the URL you showed it tells me I need to have a confirmation code texted to my phone. However the phone number I registered is a regular land line. Is there another way to obtain the shortened URL for my FB page, or do I have to give them my cel number?

Yes you do, don't worry I have not heard any problems with doing so.

Oh carp, John - please remember how you did it! This has been driving me crazy for months now!!! YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS!!!!!!!
Mar, I think you p!ssed off the facebook gods because I didn't have to do it either.

I don't know anyone that did.

What is a SMS feed?
Thats is to have text messages sent to your phone if you get a Pm or poked or want status updates from drunken grumblers :icon19:

I'm beginning to think that facebook has policies that become more user-friendly as it "gets used to you". For now, I'll just wait until tomorrow and then let it text a confirmation code to my assistant's cel phone. (I don't know how to do texting on mine, which is pretty basic. :icon11:)

 Rick
Thanks again to all of you who have com aboard as fans and friends.

Framar

SPFG, Supreme Picture Framing God
Sorry for any misunderstanding there, Rick - we are friends and fans both, right?!

Let me know if the trick works with your assistant's phone number - maybe I could make a feeble attempt to try that with the next person who walks in to my shop with a cell phone (most of my friends do not have call phones - heck, a lot of them do not even have computers!).

Although now that I think of it, why would using someone else's phone be an ID for YOU?????

Rick Granick

SPFG, Supreme Picture Framing God
You just need to be able to receive a confirmation code via text message. Don't know why they chose to do it this way rather than emailing it to you as they do other things. But then there's a lot I don't understand about the FB interface.
;) Rick

Google Maps uses this method and it just takes any cell number so you can get the text.

Tom

PS When I signed up with facebook for the URL I did not have to do this, but they may have changed it now.

Mar,

Make someone else (you trust) an admin and let them take care of it if it is a regional problem.

Bob

RParrish

PFG, Picture Framing God
Im not sure its a must do, but I know periodically you are asked to do so, if you are uploading photos from a cell.

Framar

SPFG, Supreme Picture Framing God
Well I am having no luck trying the friend's cell phone number - FB says they have sent the confirmation code but my friend has not received it and both she and her techy hubby are hovering over the phone waiting. 15 minutes so far.

Grrrrr.....

Framar

SPFG, Supreme Picture Framing God
So much for that idea.

Anyone without a cell phone have any idea how you got your URL without the texted code?

I have left an open inquiry on their "Ask everybody" page, I have sent them an email (no response) and phoned them (they don't utilize phones for customers at this time).

What else can I do?????

Framar

SPFG, Supreme Picture Framing God
Well, they texted my friend 5 confirmation codes but he received NOT ONE of them. And they kicked me off the page. Finally managed to send them, some sort of inquiry (which they will not be able to answer, of course) but it seems a rising tide of anti-cell phone people is beginning to form. Hallelujah!

*sigh*

When we applied this afternoon, it only took about 30 seconds for the message to be texted to Deby's phone. The only complication was trying to read it accurately, because of the goofy typestyle that her phone uses. Finally got it right after one correction.

I'm still marveling at how a site as popular as FB can have a user interface that is so frustrating and non-intuitive, that makes you hunt in arcane places to get clues to instructions for performing basic tasks.
 Rick

Most everything you need is on the upper right corner under "settings" just to the right of where your name appears. You get used to it the more you use it.

I got an email from "The Facebook Team" - why they bothered to send it is a complete mystery to me:
