It sounds as if this year it will be well worth it to go to Vegas to join in the "Framer Festivities." I realize that it might be a bit early but can we start a thread to share any great airfare or room rates that we come across? Sometimes there are coupon codes for hotels or links to Vegas websites that offer specials. I know that last year I stayed at the Hilton for a very fair price thanks to a Grumble posting. I'm looking forward to the best of both shows this year. Thanks PPFA and WCAF! :icon21::icon21:

IMO, it's never too early!! I am so excited about this year. Getting up and running a "real" shop we now know what we need to know!

I'll keep my eyes open for deals and share them here. I like Priceline for rental cars. I usually look at all the usual travel sites for "group deals". Usually can save by booking hotel and flights together. If you are at a Southwest airport they usually have great prices.

I found this map and really like it.

I've got to learn what's around us, I'm so use to the Hilton!

The new place is RIGHT on the strip, and has a younger atmosphere. The Hilton is kind of old, tired, and isolated from all the excitement.

Andy and I look forward to it! We plan to come on the morning of Sat the 28th, and will leave on Thursday, Feb 2.

The activites start Sunday(possibly some on Saturday), but the trade show floor will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Monday, January 30
11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Tuesday, January 31
11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday, February 1
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The National Conference schedule begins on Sunday, January 29th.

PPFA is also co locating with WCAF, and PPFA members will get a special $20 discount for the education pass.

PS: Don't forget to sign up for the chinese dinner limo extravaganza, to meet and greet with fellow grumblers!

Possibly the best deal is the WCAF package. I didn't keep the email because I will be getting my accommodations through our booth, but from memory (not what it used to be) you get "almost all" education, X nights hotel, meal coupons and I'm not sure what else, all for what seemed to me to be about what you'd expect to pay for just the room.

dont know if the deal has already expired, but last week, southwest Airlines was offering:

2 round trip airline tickets,
2 night stay at the Mirage
2 tickets for a show of your choice

All for about $650, its not the best deal in the world, but it is nice that it was all packaged together. That price was for staying at the Mirage where the show will be, the same package was offered for several different hotels, the cheaper ones were about $450-$550

Last year the WCAF package was $99.00 a night at the Hilton. Joining the players club entitled you to a much better package... 4 nights for $139.00 or 3 night plus 6 buffet coupons for $139.00. (special thanks to Mike Labbe for posting that deal)

The current WCAF price is $125.00 a night, booking directly through the hotel is $129.00 a night.

Does anyone know if there will be a VIP package this year?

I've never been to WCAF before but after 3 years of no Atlanta show, I can't put it off any longer. I've been waiting to book anything until the VIP package becomes available as it's always been a great deal.

JWB - I believe that's what they called the package I mentioned. Funny that no one else has mentioned it, and it's not obviously on their website tho...

I too have been waiting for the VIP pass. I sent an email asking if they were going to have it this year and never got a response. The pass is the way to go, you get alot for your buck and help takes the pain out of the pay. I hope they put something together.

I believe it'll be $395 for the VIP pass, and $20 less if you're a current PPFA member.

I expect we'll be seeing the roll out with the September issue of PFM.
That's about when everything gets brought out every year.

This is definitely going to be the best event since I got in the business 10 years ago.

I can't imagine being a picture framer and not trying to get to this one!

And, I think Mike is right-on in saying PPFA will be very present this year!

Thank you to all at WCAF and PPFA that made that happen!

I just got my August edition of PFM and low & behold there is the VIP Pass option on page 46. The package includes all the classes you want to take, 3 nights at the Mirage, & 3 days lunch. It is a $100 deposit and 4 installment payments of $162.50. That adds up to $750.00 if you send in your deposit by Sept 30th (You save $100.00) My check will be in the mail on Monday. See you in Vegas!

Southwest is running specials. Most flights from California airports to Las Vegas are 49.00 each way.

I just checked today's prices. 1/28 and 2/2.
note: Prices include taxes and baggage.

Providence would be $183 each way

Boston would be $198 each way

NY would be $180 each way

Or you could sign up for the Chase Southwest Visa, pay $59 and get round trip for "free".

Or sign up for American Airline's Visa or Amex, get the annual fee waived for the first year, meet the spending threshold from the offer, and get two domestic round trip tickets for free and have enough left over for another domestic round trip. (you get 75,000 American miles on either card for meeting the spending threshold).

WOW! I'm almost sure the WCAF price was $125 a night. Totally cool that they lowered it to $95.

Have any dates for PPFA events been published? Is there any chance that PPFA dates will not exactly coincide with WCAF dates?

I've been watching flights with US Air. Today it went down over $100 from Phila to Vegas. I'm sure that many of you will be taking other airlines but those who are convenient to US Air might like this to go to the January framing shows. :)

Susan

Don't know if it's the best it can be, but it was close enough for me.

$300 roundtrip on Southwest - one stop on the way out, nonstop on the way back.

I'm booked. Arriving Saturday - returning Thursday. (I'm too old for redeye flights)

See you there!

WCAF

I'm also going out Saturday and returning Thursday - I was lucky enough to have enough frequent flyer miles to get the flight "free", non-stop both ways on United. Still working on the hotel.

Chris

I'm kinda waiting to see what the final PPFA block looks like.

If I can get the Mirage for $95 a night for all 5 nights, I'm in.

Really ticks me off that you guys get such great rates...the $1000 return flights for 2 from here just gets my goat...either your airlines are losing big time or someone is making some easy money up here...and I think its probably the gov't.

Done venting....

esp when we are half the distance as Boston!

maybe now I'm done venting

You can, but don't forget the resort fee and taxes. Comes to about $660 I believe.

I am booked Southwest, Saturday to Thursday too!

I think I figured $600 for 5 nights.
$15 resort fee, some taxes, brings it to about $120/night?

no?

Sorry, Resort Fee is $22.40 inclusive of Taxes, I thought you had to ADD tax to it.

5 Nights Room w/tax ... $112
5 Night Resort Fee ....... $541

I get $653

So, I called the Mirage ... check-in Sat - Check-out Thurs with WCA12 rate
$95 + $15resort fee + taxes /night

$616 total.

With the secret code WCA12 you get the $95 base rate and a resort fee reduction to $15, then the taxes.
She quoted me the $616 Total all inclusive.

I'm guessing that even Treasure Island is a 10 - 15 minute trip show to room minimum and that's next door.

$50 might seem like a sizeable difference for the room-nights, but for me that's probably not enough to offset the added walking time and inconvenience.

If the cheaper hotel puts your room a 20-minute longer walk from the trade show floor, and if you place some value on your trade show time, then making that walk two or four times a day might eat up the savings in just a few days. Time is money!

Cool! The resort fee discount did not show online.

Looking at Google Earth, Treasure Island is quite far, but Harrah's is right across the street.

Harrah's on line (same dates) is $268.80 total.

That's $348 less total, $69.60 per night. I understand the time value, but my internal bargain shopper says I can just leave the hotel earlier. I would stay at the Mirage, but the price difference will "pay" for my classes.

According to TI, it's a five minute walk to Mirage. (There is a free tram at the back of the building.) The time that it takes to get somewhere depends on if the stars and planets are alligned correctly. It could take 10 minutes to get from your room to downstairs....Ah, Las Vegas!

Are those the nonstops from Providence to Vegas? If so, Andy and I will be on the same flight with you guys (On Saturday). I do the same thing every year with Southwest, Sat morning - Thursday afternoon. (both NS)

If you have a laptop/tablet/smartphone and are bored for the 6 hour flight, they offer in-flight wifi for only $5. It made the time pass pretty fast last year!

OH CHICKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! where or where Are you!!!!!

Harrahs is a possibility, great price and location. You might read the comments on Trip Advisor though. Every hotel has a few bad reviews, that's a given, but there were many Grumbles. I might consider the Hilton and take the Monorail two stops to Harrahs.
Susan

This is my Thank You post to Mary for mentioning Harrah's.

I've got a party of 4 and the money I'm going to save at Harrah's is well over $400. 4 plane tickets and 2 hotel rooms adds up fast.

Through Travelocity I took a $2000 trip and knocked it down to $1500 and some change. Any body ever had any troubles with airfare purchased through Travelocity???

Now to find a sitter for 3 kids who go to different schools...

I stayed at Harrah's a few years ago.

Old and shabby, with mediocre service.

But, the beds were comfortable and the room was clean.

Good enough for me.
