What is the DonMar moulding number? Was this discontinued by DonMar or by the moulding manufacturer. DM is notorius for discontinuing mouldings where the mouldings are still available from the manufacturer. If you don't have a DM cross referernce post the DM number here

BTW, you posted pics of two different mouldings.

You might want to ask Don Mar for more information.
Was it Discontinued by Don Mar, or by the Manufacturer.
The manufacturer might have some stock even if they discontinued it.

When posting a photo, it is helpful to let us know the width of the moulding.
I often include a ruler in the photo for reference.

The first, GMH6310 & 11 are available from International. There is a good chance they both are.

Looks very similar in finish (black gesso with faux grain) as International is known to carry.

Agreed, Don Mar will say something is discontinued, then while you're scrambling and tearing your hair out, you find its not discontinued, they just like to say that even if not true.

These mouldings are available from International. Someone else was looking for them earlier this week.

I don't have personal experience with Don Mar, but I do know that sometimes the factory supplying the distributor sends out a discontinued list even though most of the individual distributors still have their usual amount of stock. This is because there has been a dramatic increase in their cost from the manufacturer that they don't think they can sustain, or the factory has stopped producing it. They really can't win. They send it out too late and it is a problem, and they send it out too soon and it is a problem. I always call even if the moulding has been long discontinued. Well over half the time there is enough stock to make the frame I need, though sometimes it has to cross the country as a chop.

I know with my International supplier, when an item is discontinued, there are often 10,000 feet or more at the main warehouse in Birmingham as well as some stock in the local warehouse. That seems like a lot to me but it isn't so much when they are shipping to multiple warehouses around the country.

Framers who buy box quantities have a related problem in managing inventory. When my POS shows inventory below 50 feet, I physically check before taking the order. Frequently, no matter how much I tweak my inventory calculations, the computer shows 20 feet of moulding, all of it too short to make a 16 x 20 frame.

The thing to remember about DonMar is that they don't get any moulding directly from a manufacturer. They only resell from other distributors.

The last vendor cross reference list I have (2014) for Don Mar shows them reselling mouldings from Fotiou, International, Max, Presto, Roma and Universal . Since this is 5 years old, the list is way out of date and some of these are no longer valid but there is no such thing as a DonMar moulding, just mouldings resold from other distributors.

They don’t carry Fotiou, Roma and Max (obviously) anymore.

I still get all my Presto through them. I wish they would update their cross list
Its no longer on their site.

My latest DM cross reference lists are 4/18.
Both DM to Vendor and Vendor to DM.
You might want to give them a call.

I recall calling DM for a Presto frame (after they advertised they are a "full line distributor") and they said my frame was discontinued. When I asked "Do you mean you're just not selling it anymore?" and they said "No, its discontinued". But sure enough, it was a current moulding and was perfectly available right from Presto.

Their cross list is on their website, but 2 years old.

Chris, they are a full line distributor for Presto. But there are lines they don’t stock, they can still get it from Presto but it takes longer.
Depending on who answers the phone, you will get different answers.

Ylva, when they advertise they're a "full line distributor" but they don't carry the full line, in my opinion it means they are not a "full line" distributor.

The Presto frame I needed, they said was discontinued. When I asked them to clarify whether the frame was actually discontinued, or they just chose not to stock it, they said "discontinued". This was just false.

So they seem to be a "partial and moving target distributor" for Presto.

You can still be a full line distributor without keeping everything in stock.
I have had Presto moulding that Donmar didn’t have in stock, but would be special order through Donmar. It takes longer as they will order it only when they put in the order with Presto.
It totally depends on who you speak to at Donmar.

If a "full line distributor" says something is DISCONTINUED, and they won't special order it because its "discontinued", and it's not discontinued.... then that is not what I would call a full line distributor. I personally can't be convinced that a non-full-line distributor is a full-line distributor.

I understand Chris.
When I call Donmar and they say it is discontinued, i check with the vendor directly. If it is not discontinued, I call Donmar back, as they will be able to get it for me.
Hence my saying, it depends who you talk to.

I don’t expect them to actually stock the full line, as long as I can get it through them.

I suspect that when a Donmar service rep looks in the system, they get an item not found or something and might take that as discontinued.
So, it depends on who you talk to.
I would bring this to the attention of someone higher up as clearly whoever answered the phone didn’t know what he or she was talking about.

Which is a different problem
