I guess I went looking to use FrontPage to update my website about two years too late, as MS has stopped supporting FP since 4/8/2014. ;) And the FTP file extensions no longer work either.

All I want to do is change two freaking paragraphs on my one page website. I don't need anything else. I have even decided to direct inquiries to my shop Facebook page to get rid of the email-induced spam onslaught once and for all.

But I have been doing some research and see three options available to me:

1. To go from my cPanel to FileZilla and use that for FTP, (but as of last evening I could not get it to work).
2. Start over with WordPress, which is mentioned on my host's website (TVCNet).
3. Try this Microsoft Expression Web 4 (free version).

My website only has to be around for the next couple of years until Michele is ready to take over and I retire. The host is paid for a year and the domain is paid for two years.

And no, I ain't gonna learn HTML. ;) I like WYSIWYG. :)

If you only want to change some text that is already formatted and in the right place you can do it with Notepad.

You just need to find the existing text, delete it and put back in what you want. You just have to ignore (without deleting) any of the <> or the stuff between them.

It ain't WYSIWYG but it also isn't learning HTML. If you only want to change 2 freaking paragraphs there's no need to download and master a new program...

I can do all the edits I want until I am blue in the face but I cannot figure out how to publish the edits. In FrontPage the "Publish Web" option is grayed out. And FP only works in Internet Explorer which is only on my XP desktop at home. Maybe I'll try opening the cPanel in Firefox and see if that makes any difference to the FileZilla FTP.

When you edit a file in FP, it is editing a file on your local computer. It then needs to be copied to the server. No different than copying a file from one drive to another on your computer using File Explorer except that a different program is used; an FTP program.

I use FTP Voyager - http://www.serv-u.com/ftpvoyager. One of the features is that it allows you to open and edit (using whatever editor you use) on the server. When you close the file in the editor, FTP Voyager automatically (with a confirm box) copies it back up to the server. That might be your simplest option.

The down side is that you need to be careful with your edits. It will go live as soon as you close it out in your editor.

Yay - the wonderful guys at TVCNet have set up a WordPress page for me to play with this weekend. I'' let all y'all know how I make out. :)

A bit of a learning curve, a lot of reading and watching tutorials and pointers along the way from Fred at TVCNet, and my new Wordpress website is live. The hardest part was eliminating comments - but once I discovered the correct plugin - BINGO!

Same address as the old one - just a bit tidier, IMHO. www.framaree.com

The state of the earth without art is eh.

One more question:

My website looks fine on my laptop, but when I checked to see what it looked like on my iPhone 4, the text came through but neither of the photos showed up. I figured it was something I did. But then my Apprentice checked it on her Droid and everything looked the way it should - photos and all.

What's up with that?

Chrome and FireFox....When I click, this image

I see this

I just sent Fred screen caps of both what you see and what I see. He did say this in his last email:
"It seems hyperlink was inserted accidently while uploading that image to the Post. I have now removed it and the image info is not showing the link to your wordpress admin dashboard."

I'm guessing that you "Saved" your login credentials on your local computer so that you are autologged in.
I'm also guessing that is not what you intended for customers to see.

There are more helpful & useless WordPress tutorials around that you can shake a cat's tail.

These learning curves get harder and harder to accept as we get older.... talking about me ;)

Fred tells me I have to edit the image source from the admin address to just the framaree address. But it won't let me edit, alter or delete the URL on the image. So I deleted it from the media library and yet there it still is on the stupid page.

*grump*

One of the signs of old age is lack of tolerance for stupidity. Or so I've been told.

Hey Rick or David - click on that bottom photo on my website and see what happens now. Fred just checked it with Anonymouse and said he could not see any login info. Thanks.

Yup, WP Login screen.

Looks like the image or iframe or whatever the intended display associated with the image has been saved in the wp_admin subfolder instead of a public subfolder; thus for anyone to see whatever is associated, must be logged into the WP admin before the "stuff" will be visible. I realize that might be greek, techno-speak.

Not a WP guru here, but maybe someone else who is experienced with WP can chime in with a bit more knowledgeable advice.

WP is complex, has a learning curve, but ultimately is a good product. So good, in fact, that it is the focus of many, many hackers. TVCnet also is a WP hack repair specialist and keeps their WP applications patched.

One last try and with Fred's assistance I removed the offending image in its entirety.

*fingers crossed, sneaking away from the computer*

That removes the issue but gives you a single page website which I do not think is the intent but will work for now until you get quite fluent in WordPress...

Says he who ducks before something flies out at me from the computer screen....

My website has been a single page for years now, Rick. That is why the only link on there is to my Facebook page. I have had it up to *here* with bloated websites. One page suits me and serves me well enough - and hey - this time I I even included a few tag words. ;)
