We were having trouble with real time scanning on McAfee Total Protection. Spoke with McAfee tech yesterday and he helped get new version loaded. Later the system advised new update available and after upgrading the real time scanning said it was starting (NOT). This morning McAfee IT tech advised Microsoft Network Protection software was turned off along with several other apps and that we were scanned by thousands of hackers. They advised getting a level 5 Certified Microsoft Network Tech to fix problems — they suggest a 3, 6 or 10 year contract for anywhere from $389.95 - $689.95 USD.

Anybody else encounter this on their network?

You are not going to get real MS technical support for under about $500 per session. If your IT guy can’t solve the problem themselves, go straight to the source. Using a 3rd party to help another 3rd party would not be a good idea.

I’d be highly skeptical of any statement of threats without evidence in the form of log files to support the statement.

That said it is very common to have any number of sources do port scans on any public ip address you have.

As an IT guy of 30+ years of standing, I strongly recommend you get help from someone who actually knows something of what they are doing. Also make sure you have good backups of everything you care about.

It wouldnt hurt to run a free sweep/scan with the free tool at www.malwarebytes.org I have had terrible luck in the past with Mcafee products, and no longer use or recommend them.

There are a lot of phone scams too. Did they call you, or you them?

Justan2 is completely correct, but be careful because these "companies" can show you a log that looks scary, but is completely normal.
This is nothing but a scam. Complete and total scam.
Find a local computer person you trust. Your computer will never tell you to call someone and no one will ever call you. Both are the biggest scams going right now. If you have not yet, BACK UP!!!

With only an initial post and no follow up, I am guessing this guy is either a scammer or was taken out royally by a scammer.
