Searching For Mighty mount for large medal

Hey Grumblers, I need to frame a couple of large, thick presentation medals. The dollar mighty mounts aren't big enough in width or the depth of the clip. Am I going to have to heat bend my own from acrylic?

Perhaps a formed rod mount would be a better choice. I know there is an article that details how to create them.

Do you need the entire thickness of the medal to show?
If not I often cut a snug circle opening in the mat, and inset the medal.

You've got me there, what in the world is a formed rod mount? I don't want to do the snug circle because of the weight of the medal. I am not permitted to use any adhesive and I'm not sure the medal would stay in it's place. I may cut the circle, reverse bevel and cover the edges a little bit. Thanks y'all.

Formed rod mounts should work and a Mylar spider mount might work even better, if the top surface is fairly flat. Both of these non-invasive, non-adhesive, reversible methods originated in The Complete Guide to Shadowboxes and Framing Objects, and for the past 20 years have been taught in the WCAF Expo's lecture/workshop of the same name.

You can find complete instructions in the Grumble archives and some other forums.

We've done heavy medals using Wizard-cut reverse bevel mats reinforced underneath with foam core or Gator. Takes a bit of fiddling to get a perfect fit, but the results are worth it. Build it so the medal is fairly close to the glass and it won't fall out.

You helped us a while back Melinda, with a discontinued moulding and I hope I can help you.
Mighty Mounts has these multi-purpose edge mounts that might work and also plate mounts that might do the job, although I would lean towards using maybe 3 of the general purpose ones and you wouldn't have to make your own acrylic edge mounts..
I have to say that I'm not a "huge" fan of Mighty Mounts, I usually make my own mounts, but these might be an easier solution and I hope it can help you.
