Mozilla Thunderbird Failed Where To Now?

I have been using Mozilla Thunderbird for my email for the past couple of years but in the last month or so updates have caused insoluble problems with my main personal email account. I can receive messages on it but cannot send anything.

I have checked and rechecked everything on my settings and wasted close to a full day trying to solve this with no success.

My server has tested everything at their end and that all checks out and the Mozilla "Help" page is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike so it looks as if my only option is to find another email programme.

I am running Windows 7 so cannot use outlook any more.

Can anyone recommend a good and preferably easy to use replacement for Thunderbird?

I had this problem but it resolved it's self possibly in a windows update, we are using W10 though so this might not help.
did you try completely uninstalling thunderbird and reinstalling?

    What antivirus are you using?

I'm using it without trouble, on a lot of win7, 8, and win10 pc's. Are you using encryption and the higher numbered security ports? (most isp's block the old outgoing port intentionally, to stop spammers)

I have one email account with my ISP and two Hotmail accounts.

After uninstalling and re installing Thunderbird it will retrieve emails for all three but will still not let me send anything via my ISP account. All I get is a "connection failed" notice followed by an invitation to re enter my password followed by another connection failure in an unending jerk circle.

However, I have discovered that Windows Live Mail is still on my machine and the ISP email works o.k. with that so I guess that will have to do. If I play around with this much more I will end up visiting violence on this machine and it is not its fault that computer nerds can't leave thing alone. Someone should put up a big notice in their workplace:
'If it ain't broke don't fix it'.

My windows live mail has gone completely mental. It kept flashing up the log-in box and any password
I entered was rejected, this despite the fact that I hadn't changed anything and been using the same settings
for years. If I logged onto my webmail account I could receive and send no problem. And the funny thing was,
after doing this WLM worked again. Alas it finally failed completely. Any help pages might as well have be in
Serbo-Croat. I must have wasted days trying to fix it.
So I googled around for alternative mail progs and installed one called 'Mailbird'. I'm using it now as my default prog.
Not so many features as WLM. No mail sorting facilities so you have to manually weed out spam. And no :(s.
A couple of times it has 'choked' and endlessly tries to receive mails. Closing the prog and restarting it usually cures this.
    Otherwise it's not bad. ;)

Peter, Thunderbird is a really nice email program, artfolio's problem probably is a conflict with something else being run.

    Why can't you use outlook?

Windows Live Mail was discontinued some time ago and has some security flaws. I switched most of my computers over to Mozilla Firebird, which all but one are on Windows 10. I have one win10 computer (THIS one) that still uses Windows Live Mail, and I just haven't had the time to convert all my old messages over yet. (25 years worth, from 14 email accounts, a lot of work) ha There's a tool to convert, and I've used it. It works well!

I thought I had already replied to this thread but, apparently not so here is the update.

I tried a couple of alternative email programmes, neither of which was of any use, and finally, did what I should have done at the outset; ran up the surrender flag and took the machine in to my local computer guru.

It went in in the morning and came out shortly after lunch with Thunderbird working perfectly sending and receiving on all my email accounts. he even managed to recover the storage folders holding my bills and other important stuff which I had managed to lose while trying to solve it myself.

I did not understand the explanation - too much jargon but it was the best $30 I ever spent.
