New Grumble Format Questions.

Rick

Which browser and version are you using that has this behavior?

With IE8 and Firefox, they're displaying normally, above the vendor banner and forum logo.

Someone said earlier that they dont even see these banners, and I'd like to know which browser and version they have, too.

Thanks
Mike
Mike, I'm on a G4 Mac using Safari 3.0.4.
Seems like Neil's inability to see the logout button is related. The links are "behind" the Wizard ad until moused over.

Hey, Mike. I couldn't see some of the features like log in, log out profile settings ,etc.
They are hidden behind the Wizard ad and United ad (depending on which page I'm on) in the upper right corner. I can mouse over it to reveal these features.
I have an IMac G5 running Safari 4.0.4.
I just discovered if I hold down Command + the print not only gets larger but the top of the page changes and the ad in the upper right corner moves down, the Grumble title moves and the hidden features appear at the top of the page. It seems that the white around the right top corner banner ad is covering the click-on features.
Did someone answer about the big yellow info block at the top? Will that go away at some point after the change?

OK, I give up. Now there are no italics anywheres except for category headers (Bad Hair Day, etc).

I feel like the girl in my dorm freshman year who freaked out and quit school because none of the dorm clocks were in sync. Drove her over the edge.

Just goes to show you that Bill never stops working. Now if an X would appear on the highlighted message I would believe in Santa Claus again.

Only thing I miss...

And its silly(ish) Is the little notice of how long it has been since my last visit. It helped me in looking at new posts, cause I knowed just where to stop( at the "other"notice, stating that there were no new posts past this point, yadda yadda..) Otherwise,COOL! L.

I just tried that, and it just makes the hidden info bigger and moves it to the left a bit. It doesn't become completely visible without mouse-over.

I can confirm that SAFARI has this behavior on the PC, also. Actually on the PC version of Safari, the menu items come and go as you hover the mouse in that area. They blink.

I'll let Bill know, but this might just be an issue with that particular browser.

If you try Firefox on an Apple, I bet it doesn't happen. If you happen to have FireFox installed, let me know.

Thanks
Mike

Framer has made a change, by moving the sponsor banner to the left and away from the menu. We think that the SAFARI browser was getting confused by the banner being so close to the menu.

It now works fine with Safari, on the PC.

Can someone with an Apple and Safari give it a try, to see if the menu is ok?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, on Safari 3.0.4 it's still the same. I can see: Welcome, above the wink camera photo, but still need to mouse over to see the rest. The banner's dark blue background extends below and to the right of the white Wizard ad block, but not above- the white goes all the way to the top of the window.
 Rick

Another thing I've noticed is that I have to scroll the main window horizontally a little to be able to see the vertical scroll bar in the quick forum jump menu at the bottom right.

The picture shouldn't be under the menu any more, it should be in the center to left side of the screen, unless the resolution is set low, pushing it to the far right.

Is it possible that you have to refresh the browser to see the changes? Maybe the old style is still cached in your browser, or something.

I'll attach a photo of how it looks here.

Best regards
Mike

On the Mac using Firefox 3.6.13 I get this

Picture1-6.png

The “remember me” check box is overlaying the “United” box.

If I do a Command-+ to magnify the page, the “United” box jumps to the next line and the check box is more apparent.

It is virtually the same on Safari. But, on OmniWeb and Opera the "Remember Me" box is even more difficult to find.

The united or innovation banner should be touching the grumble banner, wayyy over to the left and center. (in the most recent version of the g, which is live now)

Mike

It"s a little better on safari 4.0.4. Before I log in all the words are visible. After I log in my screen name and notifications can't be seen unless I mouse over. Profile settings and log out are now visible as they are now to the right of the white part of the banner.
Welcome, my screen name, and notifications are still on the white.

Was the option for tags when you start a thread always there and I just didn't notice it or is it new? Is it like tagging someone on Facebook? Is it so we can get the attention of some one in particular we are hoping will reply to our question? Thanks.

Oh, so THAT'S what "tagging" means in facebook. I always wondered why I see notices that I've been tagged in a photo, when I am not in the photo.

Thread title distraction

If I had my druthers, I would love to see the thread titles being more prominent so they leap out at me, and the icon on the left a little smaller as it's less important than the title.

The thread title is the main item I look for in the front page of each forum and at the moment, those titles are a little lost in amongst all the other stuff. The 'envelope' icon is rather large and I think the titles should be the most prominent items on the page. It could be that my attention span is way too short and maybe a different skin may help.

This crop shows a small part of what I see, even with the text increased in size quite a bit.

If skins don't help me with this, I'm sure I'll learn to live with it. It will just take longer to scan the titles.

I have the IMac G5 running Safari 4.0.4. Everything is good now except the Grumble forum page that has the Innovation banner ad and the FrameVue banner ad on the software, computer forum. The white at the top of the ad is covering my screen name, notifications and the "m" in "my profile". the other words are now exposed. The white at the top of the Innovation banner and the FrameVue add is a little too tall, about 1/4" at the top. All the other banners including the United banner on the other forums are fine, all wording is visible.

Those of you that are using ie8 please switch it to compatablity mode. Use the tool menu then select compatablity view. Things should line up better.

I view the Grumble with an XP PC and Firefox. How do I make a screen shot to show you what I see in the way of the banner at the top y'all are talking about. What I am seeing is completely different from what you all are posting.

Hold 'Shift' and press 'PrntScr', which will copy the entire page. This can be pasted into a new image in a graphics program like Photoshop and the excess cropped. Save it as a new jpg, then upload it.

An easier way is to use a screen capture program like Screenhunter, which has a free version. An area of the screen can be simply captured and saved.

In Win7 there is a built in feature that does the same thing, called 'Snipping Tool'. I think this is one of the bestestestestest feature of Win7! It should have been included in every version of Windoze ever made.

Nothing visible happens. The screen shot is then in memory and has to be pasted into a new image in a graphics program like Photoshop or Elements.

It may be easier for you to install a program like Screenhunter. You can get the free version here: http://wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter_free.htm

There are some video guides on the page that show you how to use it.
Click on the button labeled "Demo-Video Guides" then "Capture Guide", then "Editing Guide".
It's pretty straight forward and it will do what you want.

Also, if you have a keyboard with multi-function function keys you may have to toggle them to the right mode so PrtScn works. On a laptop you may need to simultaneously hold Fn + Shift + PrtScn to get it to work.

I agree with Ormond about this.

Good news, though: The Wizard ad in the top banner is now at the left under the PFG logo, making all the links at the top right corner visible.

For those who had problems, it sounds as if the screen resolution was set to a low resolution. The browser (Safari) was also hot handling it well, to move the image down a bit.

If the screen is set to 1024 or less (across, and a NON wide screen monitor), I can see where the images may have been pushed to the same place as the menu.

This pc is set to 1920x1080, so the 2 banner ads are small and way over to the left.

All of those formatting issues are displayed the same way as here on another forum, that I participate in, using the vBulletin 4.1.0 software just swithed to here. The exception is that posts and the subtext of thread titles are displayed in the font verdana 3, instead of 2 as here. All other text in that forum defaults to verdana 2. I'm looking forward to exploring new skins when they are available.

Oh please, someone tell me, why does the wording on the main menu page keep switching back and forth and forth and back between regular fonts and italics???

That is all I want to know.

Not complaining, just really curious.......

Not on my FireFox page. It is still jammed under the login. It ends up under the Grumble banner only if I zoom in the page.

PC, Firefox 3.6.13 (Zoom +1), 1680 x 1050

TPFG_Banner.jpg

I can zoom out far enough that everything fits to the right of the Wizard banner, and I can zoom in enough so that the Wizard banner falls underneath the TPFG logo and in both cases I can then see everything, but it's not very convenient for using the site in either extreme...

Mar, I was just looking at that and I may have figured it out. This is just a theory and I may be wrong, but I noticed all the topics in italics were ones that hadn't been updated since my last visit. The ones in regular font had new posts since my last visit. Is it possible that is what the italics mean?

On my iphone I can't see the entire list of "Quick Navigation" options.

Anne, I figured it had to be something like that too but right now everything is in regular font whether it is from six minutes ago or six days ago and some forums I frequent and some I do not.

I found out the above is true only on the smaller (15") flat monitor at work. Here at home on my 17" CRT the ad is back on the right side, but it is a little lower than it was, allowing the links to be seen. If I drag the window smaller the ad jumps to the left side.
:icon21: Rick

I have a 17" monitor IMac G5. There has been some improvement in the upper right hand feature visibility, but two of the banner ads are still hiding part of the wording.
The Innovation ad and the FrameVue ad are still covering about half of the wording unless I mouse over or zoom. It's still the white around the top of the ads that is camouflaging the words. I've sort of given up on this and I guess I'll just live with it.

Well my theory disproved itself this morning. As I looked at the list of threads, there were brand new ones in italics that were started after I was last on here. It seems to be that everything is in regular font up to a certain point on the list and then it all switches to italics. That point seems to change too. Yesterday, it was lower down the list which is why I thought it might have something to do with new posts.

Oh, well, back to speculating.

...And its silly(ish) Is the little notice of how long it has been since my last visit.

I miss the last visit notice, too. I referred to it at every log-in. Since that notice is no longer with us, is there some indication of which threads have had new posts since our last visit?

Everything is good on my screen, now that I have taken Bill's advice and switched to Compatibility View, which I do not understand and did not even know existed.

The What's New button will take you to all of the new posts. Once you have read all the desired posts you can click the Mark Forums Read below the What's New and all the bold items will go regular font. Next time you visit only items that have new posts will appear when you click What's New.

Hey Bill, any chance of bringing back the Last Visit indicator??? I never realized how much I relied on it until it wasn't there anymore.

So I guess the Grumble is a perfect microcosm of real life.

We take things and people for granted and we should treasure all of this every moment of every day.

If you do not add your birthday to your profile, neither Danny Boy nor the Grumble will know your age.

Thus it has always been.

Mar, there are different options under the setting on how your age and birthday are displayed. I just changed mine. It was on display birthday and age, which is probably the default. I set to display month and date of birth only so the age isn't showing on all my posts.

I think it may have been last year about a week before my birthday I took off all of the information on both the G and FB. Too many people, especially on FB, wanted to put me on their Birthday Calendar. So I nipped that in the bud!

Bwahahahahaha!

I did the same thing, Anne.
