What happens when you got too much on your plate? The new auto backup failed to restart the G last night and I fail to catch it. My Apologies.

I so look forward to getting thing back to just insane over the next week.

Something to put on the list would be a redirect of forum.php to index.php, which is easily added to your server's .htaccess file. That will automatically send folks using an old link to where they belong. If you need help with the syntax, PM me.

I am late to this party, but both the default style and the Grumble style look good on my windows laptop, and everything seems to be working normally.

I agree. I had 4 or 5 people ask me this past week when the grumble was coming back up. They were using book marks that pointed to the old www.thegrumble.com/forum.php instead of just www.thegrumble.com The old link gives a 404.

It's not difficult to work but what it lacks that V bulletin didn't was the ability on the homepage to tell at a glance what was going on - I find myself using the new posts feature here, which I didn't need to do before - and now I do - I'm seeing stuff I'm not really interested in.

There seems to be more to do, or to get past, to get to where you want to be and sometimes it's not worth the effort and that is remembered next visit.

In summary ... I don't like it!

Can you be more specific? The home page should look virtually identical, with the same fields/info in the same places. Each forum is listed, as it was, showing the most recent post info.

The same authors made both forum software products, and they have MUCH in common.

It's slightly different looking, but framer is still tweaking the colors and fonts. He's not finished, yet.

Just added an Event Calendar. If you have permission you would start the post with the Event tab at top of the page. Then look for the "Post New Event", button on the top right of the event page.

1st go I messed it up. 2nd go worked perfect.

Thanks for the event calendar, Bill.

Don't stress over this stuff.
Here is some stress....

I went in to work today, I usually don't work on Saturday, just Monday thru Friday.
We've got 60 very large gallery wrap canvases to stretch by the end of next week with security hangers for a hospital.
They just came in thru a design company this week. I used to work with the woman who runs the company.
We also have 10 other giant canvases that need to be stretched and framed for another customer.

So I came in to help out my boss who was working today and all we did was take in tons of more framing.
We've also got a rush giant multiple mirror job due on Tuesday and the moulding won't even be delivered until Monday.
It's hard to get out the work you have when you just keep taking in more framing. o_O

Our regular production list is booked all the way until almost the end of February.
We also have to travel to Las Vegas in Feb. to install framing in a restaurant. We've done 6 of their other locations.

It's all good, but we are now looking for some framing help.
I will be posting in the jobs section for someone in the Phoenix area who has experience and is looking for some extra hours.

A screenshot - no posts at all today unless I scroll - obscure sub-forums are at the top. On my phone there is no right column (latest)

I can't read the very light grey text, as in date of threads

Also, for alerts: if I turn off notification, would that mean only for email, or will it not alert at all, even while logging into the G. I really don't need an email every time someone quotes me or when a conversation is started. As long as it shows up as an alert when I get onto the G

I think for a work in progress it is very good; with more improvements to come. Remember all the reasons whey vBulletin had to be dumped.

That link may cause you some trouble - hover over your login id (top right) then click on the preferences option.

I have it turned off and had an alert you had kwoted my post so I assume it will perform as you wish, do let us know if it does not though.

... There is also "Alert Preferences" under it which relates directly to alerts within the forum too (I had not noticed this one before:oops:).

If by any chance you still get emails for individual forums, the software probably converted your preferences over from the previous software (which had a similar feature with a green icon to subscribe to threads).

On this software, the email toggle/setting is after you join a forum. You'll see "WATCH FORUM" under the new post button. Click on that, and there are check boxes for [ ]ALERTS, and [ ]EMAILS that can be toggled as desired.

PM Conversations go to email, as they did with the old system. You can also turn that off, by going into your settings area(click your NAME on top right) -> CONTACT DETAILS -> un check:
[ ]Receive email when a new conversation message is received. Email notifications for new conversations, replies to existing conversations, and being added to an existing conversation.

Best regards,
Mike

No comments on the general 'feel' for the place then?

Snoozefest sub forums are pushed to the fore now, not to promote them I know, they just fit under these new headings we have. Previous the busiest forums could be instantly viewed, not necessarily always in order but on the initial screen, be that phone, laptop or desktop.

I've been pretty happy with the new setup so far. I miss the old navigation chooser in the lower right corner that has been replaced by having to go back to the forums list. Still waiting for the full group of smilies. Also, I'll be looking forward to a choice of skins, as I'm not fond of the "flesh-tone" accents. Overall, though, I'd give it a thumbs-up. Love the file upload button.

I felt the same but think its just a case of getting used to it as I now seem to be able to find my way around faster.

I used to navigate from this bit a lot (3 rows under the header) and it still frustrates me that it always links back to the main page no matter what you click on:

I guess I work in an odd way. (with old forum and new one) I click NEW POSTS. Then I go down the list and hit CTRL+CLICK each one that I want to read. They automatically open in new tabs, leaving the new posts lists there. Then I deal with each tab.

I go thru them all. When I finish a thread I have to hit the "TOP" button to return to the top to hit the "NEW POSTS" button. It would be faster to go to new posts from the bottom.

But maybe I work in an odd way - what do others do?

I do use that process often too but with scroll mouse hit the middle button to open in a new tab. Sometimes I get a bit behind and the "new posts" is hard to follow.

The way I used to operate is go to the main forum page of interest (I generally only view Grumble, Biz Issues, Warped and Tech). If there is anything of interest, click "First unread" icon and read the thread. At the bottom, click the previous post if it was one I wanted to view, otherwise either A) go back to the forum if I had noted something else of interest, or B) use the Quick Nav dropdown at the bottom/right of the page to go to the next forum.

With the old system I virtually never would be on the Home page; there is always a tab open to the last forum/thread I was reading.

All that said, even though I prefer the old system, I understand the reasons for the change, and will learn to live with them.

While the software products are "canned" and work as the author designed them, there is SOME flexibility in third party add-ons that third party developers have made. I'm sure that Framer, who is away for a few days, will see these suggestions and take a look to see if this function can be brought back. He has been doing much work in this area, and this week he added a calendar system and profile messaging system - as we had with vbulletin.

any chance of making some of the text less light. The light grey on white is very hard to read.
Ditto here.

I've reset the server clock to UTC Zulu time. Now if you select your time zone in your personal setting the correct time to your location should be shown.

Is there a way to set threads so that the last message is at the top of the page? I became used to reading the forum this way. Thanks.

How do you get the quotes to work???? I click on quote be it doesn't seem to go to the post I'm writing.

Click on +Quote.
Go down to your "write your reply" box and click on "insert quote" at the bottom of the box.
Then a "Review Selected Messages" box comes up and click "Quote this message".
Then you type in your message after the quote.

If you only want to quote one message, just click the "Reply" button in the corresponding message and it will put it directly into the reply box for you.

Would it be possible to darken the color of the gray text beneath the title of each thread and showing the most recent post time for each? The current low-contrast pale gray against the white background is getting tough for these aging eyes to see... and I know I am not the oldest person here.
