I recently purchased a second hand Pistorius Double Miter Saw for cutting Aluminum.
After getting the power hooked up, I find that it has some problems.
Does anyone have experience with them that could talk me through a few things?

1) When I hooked up the sir line for raising and lowering the blades, the blades rose erratically.
They they came down erratically when I depressed the pedal.
After fiddling with a knob on the Pneumatic Ram, the blades will no longer rise at all.

2) One of the blades is scrapping the inside of the blade housing as it rotates. It is not a constant scrape.
I'm hopeful that that blade is just shot, as I wasn't planning on trusting the quality of these blades.
I'm worried that the axle for the blade is bent.

3) The pneumatic tubing is really confusing.
My other MN-200 has 3 tubes.
This one has about 10.
This might be related to my next issue.

4) I need to purchase a Lubricating System.
It may have had one in the past, due to the extra tubing.
Any suggestions on where to get one?

Thanks,

Brian Shea

As with any industrial machine, lubrication is essential. The pneumatic ram sticking is a probably a "lack of lubrication" issue. I would also look at replacing the o-rings of the piston.

Try rotating a saw blade that you know is true (flat) and place a dial indicator against the side. If it is more than a .001" - .002" or so off it could be the bearings or the arbor that need replacing. After unpluging the machine check out the run-out of the blades hub. Remember that such things as bearings and o-rings are disposable items in the machine maintenance world.

In the 30 years that I had a double miter saw, I never had an auto lube system. I just lubed on a regular basis with a grease gun into the zerk fittings.

I think he is referrring to the misting lube system for cutting metal.
Before everyone waste their time. Post some pctures of the areas you are referring to. Also the front top which is where the misting valve goes if the brass valve is there then you just need the tubes and the lube/bottle for the lube.

This will not solve your problem.

In the future, if you need parts, Pistorius outsourced to Grainger. Dayton Motors for instance - your should be able to get a Lubricrating system there and maybe even bearings.
You do have to be careful because a lot of those things were set at the factory (like angles). You should see if the blades are alright before you do too much. Unfortunately, there is no factory. I have had mine over thirty years now. Pistorius came out and worked on the machine when I had trouble with it. They are good machine, and they take a lot of abuse. Gumby is right - which lube system are you referring to? The mister on my machine doesn't work as well as it could, so I use bees wax. Do you have a manual for the machine or have you tried to find one online?

Stop in at some local machine shops in your area and ask about the guys that work at each place who maintain their saws. These saws and CTD are in use at all the metal working shops and those guys can fix anything you need. You will just need to find someone willing to come to your saw on their day off to fix it up.

You need to contact Mike at Tem Tech. He knows the machines inside and out and does a great job of repair and adjustement. On top of it he also has parts available if needed.
His number is 219-242-9312 and his website is www.tem-tech.com.
