Thought I'd share the latest carved frame just completed. The profile is shop made and about 3 1/2" wide and the size is 20" square. Basswood was used since it carves nicely. I've included an image of the frame and painting even though the painting still needs to be varnished to "pop" all of the colors and details. Kind of corny I know but when I saw the martini glass my mind immediately went to olives! Since there is so little information out there on specifically carving picture frames the teacher in me likes to share what I discover along the way. I'm by no means an authority but if my journey helps someone else who's trying to do this that's good! Being mostly self-taught means I probably have lots of bad habits but hey, whatever gets the job done is good as far as I'm concerned.

I blog my work so here are a couple of links explaining the process from design planning to carving.

The finish is composition gold over a yellow burnisher/sealer which is toned with oil paints. This picture isn't the best but you can get more details by checking out the blogs if you're interested -- ThanksCheers - 1.jpg
