    Thanks Rhonda, lol.

His last tenets ran off in the middle of the night and left a message. We had a hard time convincing him we'd never do anything like that. Then he came in last week. His eyes about fell out of his head, lol. I don't think he's worried anymore.

Don't forget to fire that scanner up before your 30 days is out.

I love mine. I am using it daily.

I keep my 750 Photo Pro handy for doing negatives and slides.

Awesome Mona!! We haven't "found" Corvallis yet, but if we venture that way I will let you know.

Come by anytime! We love visitors. Especially visitors that we can pick their brains, lol.

Mary, everything looks fantastic. I see only 2 problems...

1- There's not enough dirt and mess!

2- Your computer isn't on the Grumble!

    MaJa SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer

Jerry - Sorry, missed your question earlier. AJ made it. It's shelving track and brackets with conduit pipes for the rolls. We always keep the bags the material comes in, peel the sticker off the box and put it on the bags. This keeps the media clean and keeps me from having to remember what's what!

Here are some close up photos. Really very simple!

    Mary and AJ,

Your space is looking great! Scout seems to be liking the space too!

How are you all liking your new town? What's life like in Lincoln City, OR??

    Looking good.

Mary, you might want to get some window coverings up quick, or at least paper over them. Wouldn't want someone spying all of that nice new equipment and deciding to help themselves.

    HOLY COWABUNGA!!!!
    This space looks awesome!!! ;)

SO ... getting lots marked off the TO DO list??? :D

  19. MaJa

    MaJa SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer

Thank you! That means a lot to me. Rob Markoff asked the very same question. Maybe we ARE doing something right!

We love the windows, too. Looks so good in here when the sun is out, which is sometimes, lol. I'm not tired, I'm exhausted!! Keep falling asleep on the couch trying to watch TV at about 8pm.

Scout's such a happy dog. I think he's be content in a dumpster, lol. We love LC. There's always something going on, plenty of places to eat. Okay, we have to drive at least a 1/2 hour to get vacuum cleaner bags, but I get to see the ocean every day. There's a park just across from the shop and we can walk over there, it's the Siletz Bay and is AMAZING as the tides change, very dramatic difference.

Do you think the customers will be overwhelmed by the choices? We were think about cutting back, lol. I think Larson and Framers Inventory are coming next week. Hopefully NOT on the same day. That wouldn't be good, would it?

We thought about that, but we have an alarm and insurance. Besides, good luck getting it OUT, lol. I want people to be able to SEE what we have, if it becomes a problem we'll worry about it then.

That darn list is like crab legs, the more you eat the hungrier you get. Yes, marking OFF, but we keep ADDING to it, lol.

    THANKS GUYS!

Mary; when I did my walls I got two LJ reps help me set up....not sure if your rep would do/offer that??? But that saved me tons of time....

  21. MaJa

    MaJa SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer

YES!! He said he would come help.

Question for you ... did he give you a hard time about having other companies? I feel a little uncomfortable about it.

  22. FrameMakers

    FrameMakers PFG, Picture Framing God

Mary, I have done something similar with our paper rolls. One thing you need to do quickly is to put some caps on the pipe. I have had them work their way to one side and then drop to the floor. This took out the roll below it too. In your case it could mess up several rolls of paper and leave a nice gouge on the floor.

  23. MaJa

    MaJa SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer

Thanks Dave! AJ Said we has thinking about that. But that will give him motivation to do it ... maybe.

We never had a problem with it at the sign shop, but I'm all for rather be safe then sorry!

  24. CAGallery

    CAGallery MGF, Master Grumble Framer

Mary, it is looking great. I am so envious of the space you have - it looks really big. And having a workshop with that much room to move around is fabulous. Here in NY where every single inch counts we barely manage to have 3-4 feet between tables.

I am curious about this too. Several of our sales reps said they would come and help but we wonder how that will work. We put up samples by style and not by company.

  25. Ylva

Ylva SPFG, Supreme Picture Framing God

Do you have one major supplier and then a few here and there?

LJ came in first, did the walls with their samples and it is easy after that to change things around a bit so it makes more sense to you and to add other suppliers.

  27. Cliff Wilson

Cliff Wilson SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer

I've had LJ do my walls a few times. The last time was about 6 years ago and they (Tom Doxee was is name - he's not with them now) took everything down and ran mono-filament vertically on my rug wall every 10". Then put everything back using the mono-filament to keep things straight. He put up what I had which was a mixture of a number of vendors.

LJ was/is my predominant vendor, but there was never an issue with other vendor's samples.

Mary, while you have nothing on the wall, you might want to think about running vertical mono-filament. It makes it easy to keep the samples in line and neat.

  28. MaJa

    MaJa SGF, Supreme Grumble Framer

Great idea Cliff! I'm pretty sure we are going to run them on a 90, but that would still work!

Looks like I might have to block the window(s) by my design computer. The sun was out most of the day yesterday and my router over heated. I think I might have got some sunburn, too. LOL. I'm thinking big print!!

Speaking of which .... getting the printer printing is on today's to-do list ...

  29. FrameMakers

    FrameMakers PFG, Picture Framing God

Mary, we added thin wood strips (attached with Velcro) to our sample wall.

This does a great job to keep the samples straight. I would also suggest that once you get the wall just the way you want them, take down the samples row by row and mark the column number on the back. I don't get so anal as to put them in an exact order, but knowing what column they are supposed to be put back in will keep your wall looking nice with little effort.

Wish I had the right cable for my camera here :) I have mine running on a diagonal. I really liked the look when I had it this way 4 years ago, moved and had to change it and just put it back this way :)

The angle makes it difficult to tell that things aren't hanging straight, you don't have to worry about thicker and thinner moulding making the lines look like they bow in and out, and it just looks different :)

It is more forgiving, and since I like the look I put my moulding samples back. I have a clear design counter again. I used to let the samples pile up, now I want to put the "look" back together again. i have to finish it. I want the golds and silvers and woods running one way and the corners running the other.Like if you had your golds going across the horizontal axis and your mouldings hanging on the vertical, then turn it all 90 degrees so you have two interconnecting x'es.

Only real problem is that some tripping High Schoolers just spent 20 minutes staring at the wall...

  33. MaJa

Did I mention I live in OR?? That could be a real problem, lol.

If you can bring in your camera I'd LOVE to see it!! I really think it's going to look great, waiting for my extra velcro (and corner samples, lol) to arrive!

  34. CAGallery

    CAGallery MGF, Master Grumble Framer

Our samples are place on 42" wide by 85" high sliding doors and we number every single sample with the door number and the row it belongs on. This makes it easy for anyone to put back the samples in the correct place, even helpful customers. Last summer we had a teenager work here through the Summer Youth Program (no cost to us) and she was putting samples away on the first day.

Welcome alacrity! You've come to the right place, the Grumble is FULL of great information and super people.

I searched and found this old thread on Shop Size. I bet if you hunt you could find more.

We are really lucky, our shop is huge. The inside is 1000 sqft and the shop area is 1200.

    Thanks Mary,
I've been hoping to find a space 1,500-2,000 sq ft. Mostly I'm finding less than 1,000, or more than 2,000 sq ft spaces.
There is a 2,000 sq ft space that I am interested in that hasn't responded to my Letter of Interest.
There is a 2,600 sq ft space in a local high end mall that already has wall were I would need them, but they only have 1 year leases. I've heard that it is hard to get a 5 year loan with a 1 year lease.

    Thanks again,
    Brian

Hey guys! We are working hard, but I think we might be going backwards, lol.

Here are a few photos, we got the truck and the windows lettered. Yes, we did it ourselves, but don't tell the locals, we really don't want to do that!

I'll get you some inside shots of the store soon. It's coming together. Trying to extract corner samples from vendors, lol.

OH!! We picked an open date. May 31st, ready or not!

I've also been working on the website and have our business Facebook up and running.

Working on marketing and advertising, too. I was on the local AM radio this morning for Chamber Chat!! Visit their website and click on the Chamber Chat Podcast link if you want to hear me talk for about 20 minutes, lol. I haven't listen yet, I'm a chicken!

    Thanks!

Yes, I did the design, layout, and cutting the vinyl. We had our old MaJa print the photo on the hood and the starfish in the frame logo. AJ put it all together!

We've set our opening date for May 31st. Not our "grand opening" but by then we should be able to make frames ... hopefully!

Make sure that entrance rug is taped down.

Or go with one with a rubber border to help prevent slippage.

    And everything is BEAUTIFUL. :)

Thanks Janet, Mark said the same thing ... I'm not sure why that's even there. I think it's just waiting for Thursday's garbage. We have a "WaterHog" mat just inside the door that is non-skid and will help dry your feet as you walk in.

Maybe AJ's hopping I will slip on it ... LOL. Better check to see if he upped my life insurance!
