The Industry Needs a Marketing Association and Affiliation With Home Furnishings

For the PPFA folks who have been very helpful to me including Randy, Ylva, Chickie and several others, Ellen messaged me today and said I am now on her contact list so I will be getting information about chapter events. I have decided to go back to my original plan and attend whatever events I can make at full price and see if it’s for me and if I think I could contribute in any way.

Back to the original post, I am meeting with the marketing and digital people about my plan tomorrow. I will see if I can get some hard numbers to provide to those who have volunteered to help. Paul, part of my plan involves exactly what you talk about in your current article in Décor so I would love your input.

    Hi Ed,
I am glad you got something out of this thread.

Not sure if anyone else got much though

I agree that light moderating is a good thing.

I happen to think you are one of the brighter people in the industry, the demeaning way you respond to Rob is bothersome. As stupid as it may sound, there are ways to call people out without making yourself look so bad. It has nothing to do with how you feel but be respectful. I think Rob has earned that.

There's no shame in being the bigger man, as for me, I've never been accused of being the bigger man.

I'm not a voice for the framing industry as you and Rob are.

I've lurked here for a long time and have watched some of the brikering. From where I sit its people like you, not Doug, not Rob or Paul who are always looking for trouble. You just said some pretty rude things about someone who hasn't even posted on this thread that I can find and you accuse Paul of being rude and baiting. Seems to me that the mind you speak is just a mite to outspoken. If I don't like someone I just stay away from them. There was no reason to attack a person who isn't even in the fray. If you've got a bone to pick with that lady, why don't you be a man and talk to her. I've got a saying that fits you. If you want to change my attitude about you, change yours first. You might like to try that Buddy.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so Pat didn't post in this exact thread, so what. I happen to like Pat and her products. I've written to her and Paul privately many times. I've suggested to Pat many time what she could do to increase her sales at her booth. Just because I said things here doesn't mean I haven't said it to them privately too. If you question that, write her privately and ask her yourself.

We've had a few threads recently where Pat and Rob have gone back and forth, just as Paul and Rob have. It's tiresome. Worse yet, it brings out lurkers like you.

As for wanting to change your attitude towards me, you aren't even a blip on my radar. You are not worth the time it would take me to look back and see your name as I'm writing this post. Do us all a favor and go back to lurking...it seems to fit your style.

It's all kicking off on Emmerdale (a UK soap), off-location murder/manslaughter but I can't wait for the commercial breaks to get back to this thread!

i think this whole thread should be deleted. And someone should try starting again.

This is not a good look for our industry.

I don't think the forum should be deleting content, but I DO think people should consider what they post before doing so. (personal accountability) Consider that it will probably be here, and searchable, for decades. Such outbursts reflect poorly on the author, as well as the forum.

Common courtesy and professionalism should still exist, even if you respectfully disagree with someone. This isn't Facebook. It should never get vicious or to the level of personal attacks, IMO.

I realize it's only a half dozen members(repeatedly), but it really does give the forum (and industry) a black eye.

I think someone sp|ked the water coolers (at both framing forums) this week. It has been like an episode of the Twilight Zone!!! :)

    My opinion alone,

What I can't figure out is that these are all good, hard-working people. What exactly went into that water?

Maybe there is framing forum in I-Ran that does that. :)

This is a common belief, regardless of whether it's true or not. If the PPFA wants to know why only a small percentage of the industry are members, then they need to focus on those who aren't.

I suspect many framers don't belong to any trade or biz assns. One of the best is NFIB and i'm guessing very few are members, either

There is a reason the vast majority of framers don't go to trade shows or take classes

I'm sure pretty much all of us can relate to the occasions where a guest speaker came into their town and only a handful showed up. If there was a cost involved, that number dropped significantly

You mentioned a few appearances lately. Did you pack the house?

Care to share the Top Three reasons why participation is so low at these opportunities?

I have my opinions, but you have the pulse of the industry; love to hear your findings

Not sure what driving comment means

Paul-over the years, you have been really quick to criticize so many structured organizations with regularity. You seem to zero in on a few specific people, questioning their ideas, opinions and details with regularity.

And, over the years, I have asked you to provide specific ideas, improvements and remedies with regularity and I can't ever remember you providing anything specific.

My most recent post asks what might be the reasons why there is so little participation per your criticism and you wouldn't even share an opinion

I played ball for too many years; some suggesting maybe too long without a helmet. LOL

Every year we would pick an 'All Bus Team'; those guys that never seemed to get in the game, but talked up the game like they played every minute. Their best games were always on the bus, the locker room, the shower and they never got their uniforms dirty

I'm afraid there are a lot of us with 'dirty uniforms' because we 'played the game'; broke a sweat, worked hard for the team

Get off the bus and get in the game and show us how to do it instead of telling us how wrong we are

Bob, your snarky and sarcastic comments and falsehoods are only intended to bait people and take cheap shots at them. You've done it numerous times, and in both this discussion and the Décor Atlanta Show thread. Your being disingenuous and childish with your underhanded remarks and pointed interrogatories. I have no obligation or no intention of playing your game.

I asked for opinions on whether people agreed or disagreed that we need a marketing association, and an affiliation with the home furnishing industry. If you have an opinion on that, feel welcome to express it. Instead, you take shots at me, my framing school and others that you don't like.

Start it up CB. I'll discuss it.

Good idea. A fresh start with a civil and professional atmosphere, where people are courteous and respectful of each other. (what a concept!) :)

Perhaps this would be best created in the business issues forum, not the main grumble. (framing technique and general questions that dont fit into another forum)

    wvframer MGF, Master Grumble Framer

I may be misunderstanding, but it seems to me that all anyone you are complaining about is asking for is some substance. There are lots of opinions in this thread, unfortunately many of them taking personal shots, but it is very short on facts.
