Tech Geek Warning: DNSChanger Malware
Malware is bad. Most people know that. There is an issue coming up that could affect internet users. On July 9, 2012 computers affected with a piece of malware called "DNS Changer" will lose contact with the internet, webmail, chat, or basically any service that points to "symbolic URL".
DNSChanger replaces settings of the computer with a "poison" web address. This malware was discovered a year or so ago and a company was contracted to replace the poisoned servers with good servers but their contract to do so will run out on July 8, 2012. After July 9, 2012 anyone who has the address of the originally poisoned servers in their computer will go dark.
We believe that ATA's and routers will be unaffected but any computer/desktop/laptop should be checked.
Customers can determine if they have bad DNS servers in their computer by going to this site: http://www.dns-ok.us/
