Amazing!

How did you attach the objects?

How did you attach the objects?
Very carefully. ;)

the LP's and a few other oddments are encapsulated in Mylar and attached to the background with 3M #889. The guitars are mounted using acrylic mounting brackets that attach to the strap knobs. The drum heads are friction fit to a fomecore disc cut with a bevel.

The "Clapton is God" graffiti background is truly inspired. Did you get to pick the background for these boxes?

The client has left it up to me to choose background and layout for each piece. Funny story about the Clapton background - when I sent the mock-up to the client for his approval he said "That face in the background... I don't think that's Clapton." It isn't, of course. The original photo of the graffiti includes an old lady walking her dog and scowling at the camera. I removed her face from the image but if you look in the lower right corner you can still see her feet. I was unaware of this image or it's significance before taking on this project but i think you could say it's the original meme!

here we go again. Top mat is C5579, cut on a Wizard 9000 CMC using the 52° cartridge. bottom mat is B998008. Took this pic before I installed the glass and spacers. Spacers were covered in B998008 also. LP's are encapsulated in Duralar and attached to the back with 3M #889 tape. Poster is not collectible, so it's drymounted on Kooltack AF 1/8". drum head is friction fit onto a 3/16" AFFC disc which was glued to the backing with PVA. Guitar is mounted using custom fabricated acrylic mounts attached via the strap pegs on the guitar body.

My favorite, not just for the awesome design but one of my very favorite bands!

Very impressive designs! How long does it take you to complete one of these shadow boxes?

Wow! VERY nice!

Great designs!!!
Does Mylar happen to come in non reflective or is this just the regular.
Do you need permission to use band logos/graphics for backgrounds?

Too long! it's getting faster as I go, but I still feel like I didn't add enough labor charge to this job. Between the Photoshop time laying out the design elements and the actual construction it's several hours work. I do a lot of digital layout before hand so I have the general design nailed down, but still end up doing a lot of tweaking as I go.

I've just been clear Duralar sheets on these. The matte finish stuff is nearly opaque. You do get some reflection on the surface, but not enough to be bothersome.
I've not been seeking permission to use any of these images - I'm not selling the images, and I'm obscuring/editing each of them enough that I feel confident they fall under the category of fair usage.

The walk of fame star is genius.

Thanks! Just added a little color to liven things up and it was good to go.
Here's the latest - sorry about the poor photo quality on this one. I neglected to photograph it before I put the plex box on it. The guitar is just a little too big for the moulding we've been using for this project so I ordered a plex box made with black sides. It looks way better in person!

Once again, I forgot to shoot a photo of this before I fit the glazing. oh well. View attachment 25239
Stevie Ray, one of my favorites.
He mostly played a Strat so the guitar was only used for signing as all of the signed guitars are.
The SRV is great!

You have a real feel for these shadowboxes and they are excellent.;)
I'm a former lead guitar player for a Chicago band back in the 60's and 70's and I always focus on the guitar players.

Eric Clapton came very close to being killed in the same helicopter crash that killed Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I feel so inferior.

Some day, before I retire, I will produce a masterpiece. I know it's in here somewhere.

Mathew, you are one very good framer. You make us all look good.

thanks for all the kind words. here's this weeks installment!

These are all part of a private collection. The owner called the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland to ask where he should go to have the work done, and they gave him our name! Not sure how they knew who we were, but I'm not going to complain!

Here's the latest; it's in a plex box so we photographed it before we fit it to avoid glare (planning ahead for once!)

Another stellar execution with the Lauper background.

once again, i forgot to photograph this before i put the acrylic box on it. and we just had a conversation this morning about documenting all the unusual and exciting things that come through the shop and how much easier it is to do w/out glazing...

I have noticed that the last couple of posts have shown that the signed guitars are Gibson Les Pauls.
These guitars are worth thousands of dollars even unsigned if they are real Gibson guitars.
Usually the signed guitars are the knockoffs and there are a number of Japanese companies producing them.

Most often, the signature guitars are the knockoff cheap guitars that are used just for signatures.
If these are the real Gibson guitars then that makes it a different situation.

here we go again. I intentionally waited until I had acrylic on it before I photographed it this time so i could show off my spiffy spacers.

lets see how many of these i can post before the rest of you get bored and completely stop paying attention. ;)
I think i spent the most time on the background of this piece than anything else. And then completely obscured it with a bunch of stuff.

Clean design.

thanks. I created the background in Illustrator to mimic one of their album covers. most of these designs incorporate a blown up photo or album cover as the background. Some use a cut or debossed mat design.

tough to see in the photo, but I debossed some pretty cool stars in the suede spacers

Another question: whose idea was it to add lots of album covers?

I ask because the packaging of newer and older stuff is a good way of presenting a 'retrospective'.

That's the client's goal here - to include as much memorabilia as he can from the collection he has gathered over the years. As far as what specifically makes it into each design, that all depends on what he has. Most of these collections include everything he has from a particular artist; there hasn't been much need to selectively curate individual collections.
