I have the valiani ix. The Penhead tool will not activate when I attempt to write text. The tool will nor move down onto the mountboard. I used it OK in the past but have not needed it for the last year.

Wizard user here, so I do not know the answer.
I would check that the other functions of the machine are still working fine.
If not, the first thing I would check is the air compressor.

Since the Mat Stylus head has been unused for a year, maybe it needs cleaning and/or lubrication. All of the Valiani heads have several moving parts, so periodic lubrication is essential. When the head is not mounted on the machine, you should be able to move the mechanism by hand.
